Well, the Bible says in James 3:5 (or 10?) that "out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing; my brethren, these things ought not so to be." blessing and cursing in that verse can be interpreted in a lot of ways, but the Bible speaks in other passages as well about our speech and how it should be pleasing unto the Lord. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says whether we eat or drink or whatosever we do, we should do all to the Lord.....that's one of the guidelines I try to live by---would profanity bring honor and glory to the Lord? Would it be a stumbling block to other Christians (or non-Christians) who are not as strong spiritually? If so, then this is definitely sin.

No, I don't think cursing is a sin....maybe if there's anger, that could lead to being out of control, that could lead to a sin...but not the cursing it's self. It' doesn't represent God very well....in my humble opinion.

With that said, I do curse at times. I am working on stopping. I am not perfect, I am not sinless....I do however want to live a Christ-like life....but still; I am not perfect....and from what I understand; won't be until I go to heaven.

That being said, I agree with some of the above post, LX V I think the only sin is to use the name of God in Vain....

Both the Old and New Testament seem to talk about the sin of unclean lips (Romans 3:14, for example), so I suppose that it is a reference to cursing. Cursing is the opposite of being joyful and thankful, which we are commanded to do.

That depends on what you mean by cursing. Jesus cursed the fig tree. Paul said if anyone came bringing a Gospel other than the Gospel he proclaimed, even if it was an angel from heaven, he was to be accursed. He said if anyone does not love the Lord Jesus Christ, he was to be accursed. So it depends on what you mean. Generally, as a Christian, we are not to invoke a curse against another, nevertheless, we are to "leave room for the wrath " (Romans 12:19)

Cursing is a sin if you are using Jesus' or God's name as a curse word, otherwise you are not sinning. Probably not a good idea to curse anyway because it doesn't glorify God.

"Let no filthy talk come out of your mouths, but only what is good for building up as the need may be. This way you will give grace to those who hear you." (Ephesians 4:29)

"Use wholesome speech that cannot be condemned. Then any opponent will be ashamed because he cannot say anything bad about us." (Titus 2:8)

"From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. It should not be like this, my brothers!" (James 3:10)

These should be enough to convince even the most skeptical.

I think it is a sin.

Ephesians 4:29-32 says:

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."

Tell me one good thing that comes from cursing... I'll bet you can't.

If you use the name of Jesus or God in the curse, it is a sin.

If you are cursing someone else, it is a sin.

If you are just cursing because you are a foul mouth, then it may not be a sin, but you aren't going to heaven because you cannot use cursing to express nothing if you are a child of God.

The scriptures say, 'Don't you know it is not what goes into your mouth that defiles you, but what comes out of your mouth'.

They also say that, 'everyone will be held accountable for every idle word that comes out of their mouth'.

I was taught any word spoken in anger is profane whether it be some of the four letter ones or , "Oh fudge!"

There are a lot of verses that make reference to the way we talk and the way we're supposed to talk.

So I would think, yeah.......it's a sin.
