Yes, it is. Many chefs on the Food Network do it. I suggest that if you plan to grind spices in your coffee mill - that you buy an additional mill. The oils in the spices seem to remain in the coffee mill and may taint the flavor of your coffee.

Yes, that's what I use. I have a small one which grinds more than enough for a few curries. Try not to get one too large as you will really notice the difference if you grind your spices freshly and regularly.
I clean it out with ordinary rice (not my best Basmati !!). Just pour enough rice in to cover the grinding mechanism, grind the rice and throw away. Wipe out the bowl with a paper towel and there you are. Also works well if you have been grinding nuts etc.

Assuming you have metal on metal grinding surfaces in the grinder, it is very sufficient. We use one in my company. I wouldn't use it for coffee AND spices though the oils from the one will influence the taste of the other.

I grind peppercorns and coriander seeds in mine all the time. I use it more for spices than coffee! The key is to always wipe the oils out afterwards.

Yes it is excellent for grinding whole spices. Just don't use it for coffee beans aftrward.
