Can you ask someone out on IM?

Can you ask someone out on IM? I know its not good to do it by texting. But IM is basically chatting except you don't hear their voice obviously.

Well, u can but it isn't a good idea. Why would u want to ask by IM? R u afraid of what he/she would say? Call her up & ask her in person. All she can do is say "no", but she's more likely to say "no" on IM than over the phone. That's just not A COOL WAY TO GO. Asking her face to face is the best way, but if that's not possible, the phone is the next best way. Get ur courage up & ask her! Good Luck.

I personally think that asking someone out via text message or IM is not the manly thing to do. Traditionally men ask women out in person or over the phone, but nowadays there's internet and text messaging. It's good to ask a person out over the phone rather than text messaging or IM because you can hear each other's voices and you can better judge their feelings; plus you don't have to wait for them to type.

If you think they won't respect you any less for it, (that is if you know them well enough and trust they won't care how you do it) then go for it. I kinda agree with you. Even though the general idea is that it should be done in person or on the phone. Some people aren't comfortable with the phone though. Personally I'm not. It depends on the someone, really..

Can you not ask them out in person or over the phone? Yeah you can over IM. How do you think those dating sites exist?

yes tyou can do but I think is better by phone at least is no classy by IM but if you are shy then if tha works for you....
