I am a singer too and all you can do is tune the audience out. Try looking up at a spot on the wall, or pick out your mom in the audience and sing to her because she has most likely heard you sing before and will be proud no matter what.

There are two ways to do this. One is to go to school, take vocal lessons and be forced to sing in front of an audience every week. Eventually the fear of singing in front of people will be replaced by the fear of not being prepared to sing in front of people. Eventually singing in front of people will become something that you do every day, like everything else. Another way is to totally jump into it, and immerse yourself. Book some shows and get busy. If you really have a problem singing in front of people you can try many things. Wearing sunglasses makes you look cool, while at the same time darkening the room enough so that you can't see all of the faces staring at you. If you are visually impaired, take your glasses off, problem solved. Don't make eye contact with others, look through them rather than at them. If you sing "to" one person in particular then you become dependent on their reaction, and you shut the rest out. Sing to and for yourself. Concentrate on your voice, if that is right then you won't have to worry about the audience. Don't drink, it doesn't help.

About 95% of the entertainers in Hollywood then and now have had this problem. People always will say how shy performers are. I've performed many times and just before I've gone on stage, I get this butterfly's in the stomach thing and then there you are in front of people who are watching your every move! But then I start playing (guitar) and in no time I don't want to stop playing because I'm having a great time. My fear leaves and the reverse happens. First, prepare your skills because you don't want to have this fear and step out on the stage and you start getting booed! If you have talent, your audience will still love you no matter your being shy because your skills will shine over everything else. Your shyness will leave when your audience is screaming your name to perform, because they will become your die-hard fans.

Start by practicing on your own and become really good first, then sing for family and friends, then work your way up to small, intimate groups, such as a home Bible study, etc. Each time you do it, your confidence will grow. Remember that courage is not the absence of fear; rather it is doing what you know you have to do even in the face of fear. Good luck!

Try out for a singing ensemble or a choir where you can learn a lot about singing without performing solo. Taking singing lessons will help, too.

You just need to start singing in front of people... It'll be hard but the more you do it the easier it'll get.
