No
dont worry the planet will survive ,but it is unlikely that we will
many predictions are for the years between 2012 and 2020
Nostradamus, the mayas ,Egyptions Jesus ,and Terrance Mckennas time wave who put the magnetic out put of the world in to a computor projection that stopped at zero in 2012,this stops the globe and it starts turning into
the other direction ,the resulting change of currents will turn the planet into a giant washing machine cleaning the surface

then there are the meteor showers you mentioned ,the gulf of Mexico is the result of one that would have made life exstinct for a while ,this would result in an other ice age if the globe is covered in dust

then there are natural disasters
Volcanos are coming to life everywhere
the weather has giant storms like hurricanes ,tornados ,tidal waves ,earth quackes

a shift of the earth crust ,like a changing of the poles
under Anrarctica were found fosilized tropical plants indication the pole must have been in a different place then (the mainland atlantis is thought to be under it )

Now we got Global warming to contend with (see my answer on global warming)

and the USA appears to be gunning for a global nuclear conflict .it is most likely that this will get us first looking at present politics

but the planet will probably survive unless humanities bombs result it to be knocked out of its orbit

so many ends to choose from
if it wasnt so serious it would be rediculous

meanwhile enjoy life .and make the most of it at least we are all in the same boat

Global warming is at the fore front because politicians found how to use a new platform to get re-elected. The world leaders use it because they found ways to make money at it. This is a made up problem just like Global Cooling in the 1970's. Wake up people. I agree we need to be more efficient with our resources, and we should fine and jail companies who are dumping into our rivers maliciously. I want to stop the raiforest destruction, but to say that global warming is a serious man made issue and we need to destroy the American economy and bow down to the rest of the world certainly does not float my boat. Follow the money on this one and you will see that it is all for political gain and grant money for those scientists who profit off of the government if global warming stays at the front of the issues. Look deep into the Keoto (sp?) Treaty, first of all they took jets to a non-central resort location. Not very environmentally concious. THen in the parameters of the treaty they have a clause that makes it so you can buy or sell polution credits. This is all about shifting wealth and breaking down the United States. This is painfully obvious, just look at peoples agenda. The earth's mean temperature has risen .6 degrees C in the past 125 years. Greenland's icecaps have gotten colder in the past 10 years. The Scientists who do not gain anything on their posisition will tell you that the earth has a natural progression and this is what we are seeing. The UN report is made up of POLITICIANS not a good spread of scientists. THere are as many or more scientists who believe that man in NOT the reason and it is over hyped, but their voice is not heard in the LIberal Mainstream Media. This issue is 99% political, and an attempt to make the USA a socialist nation, and eventually communisim. WAKE UP AMERICA, IT IS TIME TO BE AMERICANS. FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE. STOP THE LIES

According to the Mayan calendar, the world is going to end in 2012. But if you want a serious answer, you should realize that the world will continue for a few billion more years; it is humanity that is at risk - or at least humanity as we know it. Darwinian theory teaches us that the strong will adapt and the weak will die. If the Earth gets too warm, only those animals and plants that cannot adapt will wither away, and those that can will evolve into a new form. No, the Earth isn't going away anytime soon, but we might!

Let's see, we've had ice ages, global warm and cold spells (the "summer that never came" was in the 1800s), continent-sized droughts, catastrophic impacts from meteors (the latest large scale one was perhaps the 1909 impact in Siberia), world-size changes in the shapes of continents, mountains, oceans. We've suffered through plagues (including THE plague), polio epidemics (mostly a thing of the past), flu epidemics, smallpox epidemics (also mostly just a memory), rampant malaria and typhus in civilized countries (both mostly gone in developed parts of the world). We've had wars of unimaginable cruelty (the Civil War in the US was perhaps the worst war ever from the standpoint of its victims with WWI a close second), duration (they didn't name it the hundred years war for nothing) and upheaval (the Napoleonic Wars and WWI basically re-drew the map of Europe). We only recently have come to a time where common medical problems aren't death sentences (until recent years childbirth usually resulted in an infant dead before his/her first birthday and often in the death of the mother) and surgical procedures don't have to be done without anesthia or pain relief.

And we're still here.

I think we'll be here for a while longer.

Maybe life as we know it will end, if people like President Bush keeps on ignoring Global Warming problems. You know it might not happen in our lifetime, but what we do today can impact what happens to our children and their children and so on. We should all think a little harder about that.

Yes, the world is going to end eventually due to causes that are not earthly and far beyond human control. The items you list will not be causes for the end of the world.
What is more significane is what are the caused that will bring about your personal end and what are you doing about those.

No, the world's been through this for billions of years through far worse conditions. If there wasn't some way for the Earth to take care of itself, it would've ended long ago.

The world will keep going with or without humans.

unfortunately we as humans will end but not the world, the world will still exist but we will have killed ourselves. Just like when the dinosaurs were killed off the planet just repaired herself. So... the world will be just fine, it's us that we should be concerned with.

All that lives...dies. According to scientists the sun generates its own energy....yet there are dead stars.....if so is it not logical our sun will eventually die out......bye bye earth simply due to gravitational forces no longer there. IS MY BELIEF THAT BEFORE THAT HAPPENS I WILL BE GONE AS WILL YOU. So if you owe anyone any money no need to pay them yet but if they owe you it is about time they paid.
hey wheres the 50 i lent you 2 weeks ago.
