For Valentine's Day my boyfriend bought me a gold chain with a beautiful heart pendant with lots of diamonds. It is from a good jeweler and looks expensive. The problem is, all my other jewelry is either white gold or silver and this is yellow gold. Even the engagement ring he got me was white gold with diamonds. Am I being too petty? I already hurt his feelings by asking if I could exchange it for white gold and he said they didn't ave one in that color and he looked very sad or disappointed. I told him I appreciate it vey much and it is beautiful but I just don't care for yellow gold jewelry. What should I do now to make things better? I feel terrible.

Should I ...

A. Wear the necklace even though it doesn't match all my other jewelry.
B. Return it for something I really want.
C. Say I love it but hardly ever wear it.
D. Buy other yellow gold accessories to go with the necklace, so I can wear it and all my jewelry will match.

Any advice is welcome... thanks!

I just wanted to add that I am not a mean or selfish person at all. We are always very honest with each other about everything and maybe this situation didn't call for complete honesty.
I just wanted some advice on what the best way would be to handle this so I don't make things worse now that I have opened my big mouth and stuck my foot in it. Thanks for all the great advice so far. It sounds like most are going with "D". Thank you, that's probably what I will do. :)

Thanks Shamrock and Chris. I will look into the rhodium plating, and run it by him to see how he feels about that. Thanks everyone for your help!

To make things better, show him that you apprieciate the gift by wearing it.
Apologize to him for sounding ungrateful and petty.

There is actually a process that turns yellow gold white. It's called rhodium-plate. Any jeweler can do this. It does not alter or damage the gold in any way.
If any of the other white gold jewelry you have was given to you by your boyfriend, you can tell him that you want to do this so you can wear this necklace more often with his other beautiful gifts.
If you can't get it rhodium-plated, then I would go with A. Honestly, he got you something very pretty and expensive... I think that was very sweet of him, and that you are very lucky!

Wear it!!
It's okay to mix and match white gold/silver and yellow gold these days!!

No matter what gift your b/f buys you, never ask to exchange it!!
it really hurts their feelings, and the rejection may keep them from ever buying you any jewelry ever again!!

Wear it often when he's around.
(he would have gotten you white gold if they had it! It's the gift, the thought the effort)
**I know U are not mean!!
******don't ever do this again!!**********
I was too finicky and ...............now
my husband is afraid to buy me anything unless i pick it out now!!!

Buy some Gold earrings to compliment the pendant.

YOU may really like it!!

and the older you get, the more you appreciate yellow gold.

Don't do B or C. That would hurt him even more. If you have enough money they go out but other gold jewelry, but if you don't then just wear it with diamond studs and no other jewelry that way it will match.

There is a process that they do where they dip the jewelry in (some type of stuff) and it turns the yellow gold silver in color. (Any jeweler knows what this process is.) The process costs around $30.
You're welcome.

Pawn it.

Obiciously you have no feelings for this guy and only care about yourself.

So sell the necklace and buy your self a cheeseburger with the $$.

D is the best choice, you already pretty much blew it though. How could you hurt him that way? He bought it out of love and didn't go cheap......... are you going to continue to emotionally castrate him after marriage?
