Many times I've been given antibiotics which have helped the illness, only to have it return after a week or so. I believe that this would contribute to those "super viruses" by allowing them to build resistance to medicines.

Physicians prescribing antibiotics for innappropriate illness like viruses and people not taking their antibiotics correctly and completely do lead to resistance to antibiotics. Antibiotics are useful for bacterial infections, not viruses. Doctors should not give a general antibiotic. They should get the labs done to indentify it, then prescribe the correct medicine. Patients must take their medicine fully as instructed or some bacteria can survive and lead to changing to more resistant baceria that that particular medicine no longer works for. This has happened with several already. That is how we got MSRA...methicillin-resistant S. aureus. It is very difficult to control and stronger meds are being developed but care must be taken.

the reason antibiotics may not work is because you must be on time and completely finish what you are prescribed, not to say that you dont but that could be a cause

doctors dont like to prescribe antibiotics because reseach shows that over time bacteria have and will become immune to it. the fact that you think that not prescribing enough antibiotics because bacteria will become resistant is backwards
