I had a misdemeanor charge from 1997-1998,but thought It was cleared, now my recruiter said he got a call from MEPS, stating that it was not cleared up completely, that I still had some community service hours, I had to complete. My recruiters are trying to see what they can do. Could I be discharched from joining the Navy, now? ....................... (original charge:Theft Under $300)

First of all...since you are only in the delayed entry program you are not TRULY obligated for service yet and do not fall under the UCMJ until you arrive at basic training (hint...that's when your paycheck starts). So to use the word "discharge" is somewhat incorrect, and unless your recruiter can pull out a magic bullet that would relieve you of your community service, you are still obligated to complete your time. Attempting to cross over to another service will not make a difference. Best advice...do your community service time first and get that off your back. The military will still be there. As for your recruiter, the reason he must be freaking out about now is because your a monthly quota that is about fall thru and he's looking like an idiot for letting you get as far as you have. And as for you...no worries, nothing to stress about...just take care of any loose ends.

So?!! Do the time and join the Navy if that's what you want. What's the problem? You are obliged to fulfill anything levied against you. They even put restrictions against people who owe too much on credit cards because it makes them a security risk.

Yes you will be discharged from Navy and probibly be permanetly discharged. I know that the Army will take you. Interested if Navy does not work out?
