Absolutely!!! Especially since it affected the outcome of the race. It DOES NOT matter where they were wrecking!!! They were and that is an undeniable FACT! Are they going to let them race back to the caution in every green-white- checker this year? I think not. Using some folks logic here, it's ok to speed on the highway as long as you do not cause a wreck. Oh please. Get Real Folks. It's just plain WRONG!

Why does everybody say it had nothing to do with the leaders, that is totally not the point. The point is, Nascar throws out the caution when there is a wreck, and by the way if you don't think a car upside down on fire with cars hitting him is not a caution, then your a damn fool, when they throw out a caution they FREEZE THE FIELD, FREEZE THE FIELD, THEY FREEZE THE DAMN FIELD!!! Nascar stepped all over their own rule, its a rule that they made, that they are not following. When Kyle Busch started spinning, Harvick was in front, not a second later Kensith stared spinning, and Martin was in front, and held on to the lead until the last 100 feet. When should they have thrown the caution? No one will ever know, but they should have. Nascar is to dumb to think of a situation like this when they what have to decide what exact second to freeze the field, for the win. In my opinion no one will ever know who won the 2007 Daytona 500 with the current so-called rules.

I am happy Harvick won but I would have love to have seen Mark Martin win this. But NASCAR set a precedent a few years ago by allowing the leaders to race back to the line if a major wreck happened at the end of the race. Two or three years back, heck maybe even four years back now, Earnhardt Jr. lead Tony Stewart back to the line on the final lap after a big accident toward the end of the backstrecth at Talledaga. No one else was racing back to the line, just Harvick and Martin. Let the two drivers race it out to the end. Either way someone would have cried foul at the end of the race no matter how it ended. Its done and over with, plus they still have to go through post race inspection. Martin could still win it if Harvick's car does not pass.

Absolutly! The rule was created to prevent cars from racing back to the line, which is exactly what NASCAR allowed Martin and Harvick while an obvious reason to throw the caution flag was right behind them. As if people werent talking enough about all the cheating going on before the race now NASCAR goes and cheats on the rules themselves just so the guy who took over The Intimidators car could win on the 6th anniversary of his death. Way to drop the ball NASCAR and way to cheat a great man out of a win.

Should the yellow flag have been thrown? Absolutely! There was a field of cars travelling around 200 MPH and the cars from the 3rd position on back were wrecking. This put most of the field in danger by trying to "race back to the line" (hence the reason NASCAR freezes the field at the yellow like CART did).
At 200 MPH, I'm sure there would be no difference if the flag was thrown or not. Lucky no one was hurt racing to the finish line running through the green flag part of the wreak! If a car was going to crash, they were going to crash regardless if the yellow was put out or not. However, this is just another example of NASCAR not consistantly applying their own rules.NASCAR is so dang inconsistent, it's upsetting.
NASCAR should sit down and make a rule book with specific rules!

I wish martin had won, that would have been better than the cheater... but i agree with nascar not throwing the caution... they were VERY close to the start/ finish line and the accident was behind them, not in front of them. Actually, i would have preferred it if Kurt Busch, Dale Jr., or David Gilliland had won... but we all know how THAT ended... Anyway Harvick took first before the wreck happened, and neither driver is questioning Nascar's decision.

At the time I felt, like Mark Martin, that they should have. But Darrell Waltript noted that everyone saw the wreck and it allowed the race to have a great finish. But for those drivers who didn't get to cross the line got screwed. And there was room for error since no one really knew what was going on. In the last 25 laps of any race, the yellow flag is purely political.

To me Mark Martin got screwed out of the Daytona 500 win. They were saying towards the end if there was another accident then the yellow flag would come out. I don't care but they shouldve threw the yellow flag out no matter what. I could tell the Mark Martin was really disappointed at the end. To me Mark Martin is still the man of Nascar........He shouldve of won that race!!!!!!!!!!!

no because that's not true racin. I like mark and too bad Harvick escaped with a marginal victory. That's racin!!! Harvick put a good run on Mark from the outside with just a touch on his outside rear quarter to slow Mark without recking him, but enough to get the victory. Bumping is also part of racin!!! As for the caution I'm glad they waited until the 2 leaders crossed the finish line.
