"Behold, the LORD's hand is not so short that it cannot save; neither is His ear dull that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His Face from you, so that He does not hear." (Isaiah 59:1,2)
If there is a communication problem between us and God, the first hindrance you must always consider is sin, as this is one thing that separates us from God.
So then, what is one to do about the sin problem?
God has not left us without an answer, but the answer is a far more radical adjustment to our circumstances than many are willing to consider. The problem runs deep. It is not just a matter of wrong actions, but a deep seated settled attitude of rebellion and obstinacy towards God. We are rebels by nature, having inherited a bent toward sin. Now God will not condemn us for our nature, but for our actions. The testimony of God in Scripture is that "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." That is, we have all failed to measure up to God's expectations for us.
But then, what is the answer? The answer lies in realizing there is nothing we can do to earn God's forgiveness for sin or to become good enough for the Kingdom of Heaven. But thank God, what we could not do, God did for us in the person of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus was the only-begotten Son of God, who came down from heaven for the express purpose of offering Himself as a sin sacrifice to reconcile Mankind to God. When Jesus died on the cross, He took upon Himself all of the just punishment due to all sinners for all time, according to the will of God the Father. This He was able to do because He was sinless as a man, and because as the Son of God, He had an infinite capacity to endure such a great weight of suffering. He was "the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world" (John 1:29)
So from God's standpoint, the sin problem has already been dealt with, but from the human standpoint, it avails us nothing, until we appropriate by faith what God has accomplished for us in Christ. It's as if I had a million dollars in the bank, but never withdrew it for use. God has provided for all the needs of mankind in Christ, but we must respond to the call of God in our life to forsake our own righteousness, our attempts to "earn" God's favor by our good deeds or religious service, and come to God and admit that we are sinners and total moral failures. We have not loved the Lord with all our heart and mind and strength and our neighbor as ourself. We have not put God first in all our choices and goals in life. We have not been "seeking first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness." These are the things necessary, but we cannot attain them by our own efforts.
So then what does God require of us? Simply to acknowledge the true state of affairs, and humbly to call upon Him to save us out of our present condition, and restore our hearts to a right attitude and put us aright with Himself. This He freely provides, as a gift. You cannot earn it or deserve it, you must simply receive it.
"For by grace are you saved through faith, and this salvation is not from yourselves, but God gives the gift; not as a result of works, so that no one should boast." (Ephesians 2:8,9)
"Now to the one who works, his wage is not reckoned as a favor, but what is due. But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness." (Romans 4:4,5)
"For the word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that is, the message of faith we are proclaiming;
that if you confess with your mouth "Jesus is Lord", and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart one believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth one confesses Jesus, resulting in salvation.....For whoever will call upon the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:8-10,13)
God has done His part - the next step is yours - call upon God to save you in the name of Jesus Christ, washing away your sins, and giving you a new nature, one that loves to do his will. Then thank Him for His promise of forgiveness of sins, and begin to read the Word of God, especially the New Testament, so you can begin to understand His will for you, and the great love He has for you. Then pass the message on to others.
Peace to you!

I believe we each as Spiritual Beings are Gods of our own personal universe. So we each have a higher self, so to speak, or access to higher information. Before I retire at night I put out a question or request for an answer. When I wake during the night or morning I write down any information I pick up on in a dream or any thoughts. My personal Inbox. Also a higher Being might be in the area and maybe pass along some info. This is how I do it...

If you have truly put your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross for you then you communicate with God not only by pray but through His Word. He told us that we should study to show our self approved to Him. 2 Timothy 2: 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. He also told us that we can understand all things if we consider the revelation of the mystery given to the Apostle Paul. 2 Timothy 2: 7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. If His Word is true then you can understand how to communicate with Him through His Word.

Prayer is an active effort to communicate WITH a deity or spirit... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prayer

Some people often use prayer to talk TO God instead of with God.

I believe that the movie was trying to use the word "communicate" to describe a 2 way conversation, which includes listening.

Prayer is like talking on a telephone which is not plugged in: no one is listening. Prayer does have some utility in helping you muster your thoughts, but it takes two to communicate.

Hi Michelle,
The only way that HE has given us to communicate with HIM isd thru prayer. This is the avenue that every Christian is given. It is a tolle free line available only to HIS CHILDREN! Are you one of them? Study these scriptures and see what you think. To become a Christian:
1. We must HEAR GOD’s WORD. - Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
2. We are told to BELIEVE. - To the Prison guard in Acts 16:31 Paul and Silas said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."
3. We must REPENT (turn from) of our sins. - Acts 17:30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent.
4. We are told to CONFESS CHRIST before men. - Matthew 10:32 "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
5. We are to enter the waters and BE BAPTIZED. - Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
6. We are told to CONTINUE TO BE FAITHFUL until death. - Revelation 2:10b Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
Send me a note if you have questions. I am anxious to hear from you. Have a Great day.
