For my birthday my friend from work brought me brownies and then went to happy hour with myself and a few other coworkers. I had quite a bit to drink and she ended up driving me home. When she pulled up to my place I thanked her for everything and extended my hand for a shake. She then said, you don't shake your female friends hands you hug them. So I gave her a hug. The only reason I didn't hug her is because she says she is seeing a guy, and i respect that. Why was it so important to hug?

Hugging gives reassurance and brings people closer together.
Also, who the hell shakes people's hands to thank them for a ride home? Is she your boss or something?

Relax, Some girls are just like this. I hug my guy friends just because they are my friends and it is the way I am with them and it's just a friendly hug nothing more. Don't get to into this hug it was only a hug a simple friendly hug, get over yourself it was your birthday and you had to much to drink and she is a friend and you hugged end of story........get over it! Thank god your not my guy friend because you would really freak if i kissed you on the lips.... and especially if your wife was right there.........get over it!

Why do you freak out about a hug its your birthday she want to show a little bit of attention thats all doesnt mean anything more...

I think she was coming on to you dude. I'm reading thru my Girl Handbook here and I don't see anything in the index about having to hug men instead of shake hands. if that were the case, my 3 bosses would be constantly pissed at me.
