I saw it, and I think I have a mental disorder where I am emotionally impacted by war films, particularly WWII ones, and after I saw "Letters from Iwo Jima" I couldn't stop thinking about the main theme (song) and the sadness of the film. I loved it, but I have a very complex emotion attached to the movie, almost pride, some longing, but sadness overall. Is this a disorder, or a common response to graphic movies?

A lot of people have a strong emotional reaction to a movie, a book, a work or art or a piece of music. I think that just means the people who made it did a really good job.

I cry everytime I hear the John Lennon song "Beautiful Boy." I feel silly about it but it's true.

As long as you can tell the difference between the movie and what's going on in your life; there's nothing wrong with that.

I worked in mental health for about 20 years, and I never heard of anybody being admitted to a hospital or applying for services because a certain movie affected them. I read from the DSM-IV almost everyday as part of my job. It's the main book of mental disorders used by psychiatrists and other mental health disorders and there's no such disorder like that.

i have not seen the movie, but like you i feel very upset and take to heart all the feelings that i see. so i chose not to watch. also if i hear a song that goes straight to the heart i cry. that is not a mental disorder you just feel more then some people do. i hope you have Happy life and don't dwell on the negative because that only causes pain.

It sounds like you are a compassionate person. Nothing wrong with that. I have not seen this movie, but I saw "Flags of our Fathers" last weekend and felt very emotional. It is unbelievable what some people have been through and survived.
