I was with a friend near the side of the road yesterday, it snowed a few days before so we made some snow balls and threw them at cars. (lol)

A car suddenly speeding backed up to where i was.
A man stepped out, he said he was a police officer and said we could go to jail for what we were doing.

I asked him to show us his badge to clarify he really was a officer. He hessitated and said "I um, dont have it with me right now"

I figured he was telling a bunch of bull.

But anyway,

Would he get jail time for impersonating a police officer?

If so,, how long?

you are probably lucky all he did is try to convince you not to throw projectiles/snowballs at moving cars, Instead you are too stupid to understand the meaning behind his statement and want to question him.
Would it have been better if he would have got out and beat your *** with a baseball bat for what you were doing? Ya know "lol" all in good fun.
Grow up asshole, you are lucky you did not get your *** beat!

I think that he was not a officer of the law but them Fr Chuck once wore the uniform and from what I hear from his former peer he was not really an officer of the law either. Now hes a man of the cloth and he can't keep his congregation awake. But I digress. All officer on my department are required to car identification at all times. Stop throwing snowballs at cars and you won't ever see the 8 by 9 inside of a cell.

It is illegal to impersonate a police officer. Generally, it is a misdemeanor offense carrying a hefty fine and less than a year's jail time. If this fellow had been caught he probably would have got a suspended sentence since all he was trying to do was stop you and your buddy from tossing snowballs at cars.

You two mental giants would have been charged with more serious offenses, especially if your antics had caused a traffic accident.

I was accused of impersonating an officer once....... When the Sheriff showed up and determined that I was one, the kid was arrested for a felony. Shooting bbs or anything at a moving vehicle is a FELONY. So, when the cops show up, do ya think they are gonna pick the misdemeanor over the felony???????????
Think about it

Yes he could go to jail for impersonating a law officer. I think length would vary by state and severity.

You can also be jailed for impersonating a clergyman (woman).

Consider yourself lucky. He could have really been a cop and just not had his ID. I don't always carry mine.

Consider yourself lucky he didn't make a citizens arrest. Anyone can arrest you for a felony.

Consider yourself lucky that the cops didn't show up and arrest you for a felony.

Consider yourself REAL lucky the guy wasn't some psycho with a gun and that he didn't walk up and smoke your dumba** for throwing snowballs at his car.

Look it up......throwing items at cars is a felony.

When you get older I hope some punk kids smokes your $40,000 car with a brick. Then you will know what Karma is.....

No, he was not wearing a uniform, not showing a badge, but trying to teach some kids a lesson.

first he could have been an officer, when I was off duty I never carried my badge with me.

but you can be taken in for throwing anything at cars.

Yes, it against the law, both his action and yours. The length of time would depend on state laws and any prior criminal history.

As for you, pick a more mature hobby. Assault, criminal mischief, and damage to personal property are just a few of the charges that you could face. Seems that you should look in a mirror before you start pointing your finger about someone breaking the law.

Depends where you are... in the UK, he'd probably just get a caution for a first offence. It would also depend what he was doing whilst he was pretending to be a Police Officer. All circumstances would be taken into account.
