Ah, what a pesky problem. Proactive works wonders on black heads and pimples. Also, every couple days a scrub works well too. I use apricot scrub from st. ives. good luck.

I started breaking out when I turned 15. Every month, two weeks before my period, I had 4-5 new pimples that took a week to go away and left pigmented marks. I tried everything - Neotrogena, Clearasil, Clean and Clear, Biore, salicylic acid, benzoyl perozide, oral antibiotics. They all helped in reducing existing pimples and redness. But nothing worked to STOP pimples from forming or reducing left marks. Which shouldn't surprise anyone because my acne was classic teenage hormonal acne. So I decided to target not the surface, but the roots: monthly hormone fluctuations and oily sebaceous glands. I started my regime two months before my 18th birthday; its been seven months since then and my skin is clear: old pimples gone, no new pimples, and all scars erased. This is what I did: 1. Birth control pill. Because there is now a stable amount of hormones flowing through my body, I don't have monthly fluctuations. Which means I don't break out monthly anymore. 2. Tretinoin. It is like a topical form of Retin-A and a step short of Accutane (which is oral Retin-A). It peels off the top layer of the skin and fastens skin renewal. It also dries off the sebaceous glands. Hence, existing pimples on the surface are peeled away, hidden pimples under the skin are brought to the surface and peeled away, and no new pimples form because your sebaceous glands are dried up. Its a miracle. 3. Face wash, exfoliator, and moisturizer. I use Neutogena although most facewashes and moisturizers from CVS or Duane Reade would work. I wash my face at night to make sure that the tretonoin cream is absorbed. I then apply tertonoin before bed. I wash it off in the morning and apply an all-day moisturizer to help with the drying it causes. Lastly, I exfoliate thrice a week. My acne and scars are all gone (-:

You have to attack acne where it starts, with your diet. For me, diet was the cause and solution. Topical medications fight the symptoms. Start by eliminating trans fats and eating more fruits and vegetables. Once you start cleaning up the inside of your body, by eating properly, the outside of your body (your skin) will be get cleaned up too. I started a website to document my problem and solution.

You might find it helpful to read my story. Just remember to eat an all natural/organic diet with lots of fruits and vegetables. Stay away from processed foods. Use mild, all natural cleansers and don't pick at your face. Get lots of sleep and enough water for your body weight. Remember, clean body = clean skin. While you're waiting for your skin to clear, remind yourself that acne is a challenge that you will overcome soon. Once you're rid of it, tell all your friends how you did it. That's what I'm doing. God Bless.

i know dis probably sounds
weird (esp. since every1
is saying use proactive)
but u would never guess
that neosporin works wonders!!
just put a small amount
on each pimple/ blackhead
and soon they'll be gone!!
every time i see a pimple
i put neosporin on it b4 bed and
when i wake up in the morning
99% of the time its gone!!
its alot less costly as proactive
and works just as good for me.

good luck. hope u solve ur problem

Nu Skin has a product that will help prevent and clear up existing breakouts and will not dry your skin out at all. It is very effective on blackheads, red skin, and there aren’t any shiny effects.

Proactive may work for a while, but then it will start to dry out your skin and may start not to work. I would give Nu Skin Clear Action a try. I really like it.

Neutrogena works the best for me.....the daily blackhead/pimple scrub followed by the astringent works awesome.....Proactive I hear is good but they don't carry it in the stores.

I tried ProActiv and it did not work for me. Nothing helped me at all...most products made me break out even more...but I went into Sephora for some makeup and came out with a whole new skincare regimen, called Cosmedicine. http://www.sephora.com/browse/brand_hierarchy.jhtml?brandId=5822
I love this brand!! It's get rid of blackheads and stops zits before they start!!! I say check it out...it helped me.

I personally use Olay facial scrub with a facial moisturizer. That's pretty much kept my face cleared up for a while. Sometimes you need to try stuff that isn't really made for teens.
