Not too much! Some dogs love to dig...so find out about the breed. Also the puppy stuff usually stops when they mature anyway...perhaps when you see the puppy digging you could distract it and show it something else fun to do, like play ball.

When you see the puppy digging in the garden, move her to a part of the yard she can dig. Dogs dig, some breeds instinct is to dig.

Some dogs instinct is to dig like my 2 (Siberian husky and Alaskan malamute). I tried hot peppers and Cayenne peppers but you have to reapply after a short while. The only thing you can do is show it a lot of attention and do not leave him/her unattended for to long. I found that they tend to get bored and start digging. Mine do anyway. Every dog is different.

The squirt bottle is a good way. Another good way is to sprinkle chili powder in the area that the dog is digging. It will get into his nose and he will not like it. It is safe and humane. Because it's a dog instinct it will take time and patience but it will most likely eventually go away. Good Luck!

just stop her when you see her doing it, and dont leave her outside unattended for long periods of time because she will dig the hell out of your yard. the key is to stop this behavior when she is still a little puppy.

like children puppy's need lots of attention. take time to play with it daily if you keep it occupied then it has less of a chance to be digging .now is a good time to Begin training . dogs need and want a purpose a job so to say .and depending on the breed of dog depends on its activity level . do some research on what kind of breed your dog is and find out what type of work that dog was originally bread for . if it is a mix breed then you will have to find out which breeds are mixed in . this will help to find out what your dogs interest are for example a Labrador retriever was breed for hunting so this type of dog wants to retrieve . dogs want to please there owners so once they Begin to learn they will work hard to do that . smaller dogs say the terrier are also a type of hunting dog used to track down small rodents so they like to dig because that's whats written in there genetic code if you will. bottom line find out your dogs breed and what that breed of dog was bread for and this will help you to find a job for that dog to do taking his mind off of digging and occupying it with a job it will love doing .

When you find out let me know. There are some additives for plants you might try.

Better yet. Train him to expell all that energy into something positive.
