I have a beagle and they are very hard breed most of them do get overweight fast.
My dog is constantly wanting food if she could she would eat herself to death. Also they are sent hounds and as they say ' nose on ears off ' It's very hard to train them to be off a leash because they are breed to chase rabbits and other animals. They can be very loving dogs though.
Good Luck!

They do seem to get overweight rather quickly. My son's beagle was fine last year, but over the winter, with getting a lot less exercise than during the summer and fall, he's put on too much for his health. It seems you need to be really careful not to feed them to much, especially when they can't run as much as they should.

Most dogs in general have a weight problem. The good news is that it can be easily fixed by the dog owner. Back off on the amount of food by about a third (that the amount of food most people over feed by) cut treats in half and start walking your dog every day for a least 45 minutes.

Beagles require very small amounts of food as they are small dogs. But beagles are extreme chowhounds, and prone to obesity due to lack of exercise. Many people feed them too much, or give in to begging, and in beagles that results in a fat dog fast.

A weight problem is not breed specific but the owners problem. If a dog is getting fat , cut down on the amounts.
Examine the brand of food , like our food some are full of sugar.
Caned food is less fattening but not the best for your dogs teeth,
A good quality dry dog food is best in measured quantities.
If your dog seems still hungary , try raw carrots, broccoli stems.
Same rules apply to people , feed twice a day but not after 5pm.

Any weight problem a dogs has is a result of its owners.
Check with your vet to determine the best food and what
amounts to give. Also, like most americans, most of our
dogs dont get enough exercise as well! (Also, watch
the treats!!!)
