I bought a new stock for my ak but I cannot remove the old wood one. I removed the two screws but it is stuck. I have heated the metal up and banged on it with a mallet but it didnt work. Any suggestions to get it off without damaging it too much?

Thanks for the suggestion heads up, but there aren't any additional screws under the end cap.

Sometimes after removing the butt plate that has 2 short wood type screws there is a long clearance hole in the wood butt leading to another machine type screw fastened to the body of the lower receiver. In this case you will probably need a long flat screw driver to reach this internal screw.
Try getting an owners manual from the manufacturer or a schematic drawing of that particular model . There are many different variants though.Good luck.

Yeah, they are left hand threads so turn it clockwise. If it still doesn't go, it is possible that some bonehead silver-soldered it in place. If so, you won't get it apart. -Edit. If it has been silver soldered, the level of obviousness corresponds with the ability of the soldering bonehead. I have soldered a few that only have heat discoloration on the break and barrel. Some poor jobs will have little blobs of solder visible in the little bit of visible threads or in the gap between the break and barrel. I also got to thinking, if this is a homebuild, some of the Romanian parts kits I got had frozen muzzle breaks - none upside down however. They took a lot of force on the wrench but eventually broke loose. Before trying anything else, If it were me, I would put a little heat on the break with a propane torch and try a crecent wrench again. That soemtimes helps.

There aren't any screws at the end cap. Take off the dust cover and you'll see the screw that connects the butt stock to the receiver looking at it from above. Take off this screw...
