Why not get a job in Hawaii?

Check online for jobs at hotels and resorts here. Since some of the hotels have a hard time holding onto good help you can many times take an interview over the phone, get hired and make a deal with them to let you stay in a room for free for 30 to 60 days (during the off seasons). I've heard of people doing this and it's worked fine for them here on Maui. Stay flexible with the type of job and salary. Don't get discouraged because Hawaii salaries tend to be somewhat lower than the Mainland. Once you move from the hotel find a apartment or house to share with someone. Many of the decent 2bdrm apartments are going for around $1,500 a month. Split that for $750 a month rent.

You do not want to live in a hostel. Did you not see that movie..lol
You have to have money before you even get here. You can go to Labor Ready there on Kapiolani Blvd. near the convention center and work every day. Depending on your experience it should not be hard to find a job. Try and rent a room and share a place with some room mates. It will be cheaper and you'll make some friends too.

absolute cheapest way: live in a youth hostel in Waikiki and work at a restaurant there (free food, or at least leftovers/scraps). forget about the car (no parking in Waikiki, and gas is $2.70/gallon), so just take TheBus.

Yeah, good luck. My cousin was a VP at a bank, making seven figures and could barely afford to live there.
