I keep hearing "born this way" and I just want to know what straight people think in general.

They are born that way, just as kleptomaniacs are born their way.

We live in a fallen world. Part of that is some people having a natural tendency toward certain deviancies. The truth is this: we don't have to act on our impulses.

Do we forgive the kleptomaniac for stealing, because he was "born that way?" No, we send them to jail and therapy. We don't excuse their tendency, we teach them to control their passions.

The same could (and should) be said for those whose tendency is sexual gratification toward the same sex.

I think some might be and some not. Sometimes homosexuality might be an unconscious response to a childhood trauma, such as getting molested. So it's not a choice but it's also not something that inevitably had to happen. On the other hand, some homosexuals may very well have been born that way. I've known some lesbians who didn't just dress and act like men, but their entire build and figure looked like a man's. There was something physically different about them, which probably was connected with their sexual orientation. On the other hand, I've also known "lesbians" who adopt that lifestyle because they think it's really daring and artsy and drop it once they graduate from college. So for some people it is a choice.

It is a mixture between nature and nurture. Just like the chances of getting cancer or any other life choice someone makes. I believe some people are born with the predisposition to become gay, and if things go a certain way in there lives, then they may eventually become gay. Many children that are sexually abused become gay, some don't. However, the percentage of ones that actually do become gay when compared to a group of gays that weren't abused are phenomenal.

There is no black or white or single cause. However, whether or not it is a choice is plan as day. When it comes to being attracted to the same sex, it is not a controlable thing. Just like heterosexuals. Could you choose to be attracted to the same sex? Or are you just naturally not?

I am a straight Christian woman and I'm sure I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that at least one I know was born that way! She showed early signs from when I first knew her as a small child. There were so many signs yet she didn't face it until her twenties and had tried to "be straight" until she couidn't do it anymore.

The argument that God would not create gay people is bogus. Does he create retarded people or choose who the genius is going to be? No, unwanted babies are born every day. No need to throw the gays in there too!!

So I expect we all will know that just as soon as science and biologists catch up and discover the genetic coding involved. Yes, some are born gay. XXY OR WHATEVER!! FACE IT!!! THEY DON'T WANT YOU!! RELAX!! And that's a fact. @8-)
Love one another and judge not, lest ye be judged!!

Yes, I do. I think some people fake being gay for some reason or another, but those who are truly homosexual are born that way, just as a heterosexual is born straight.

I can't imagine why a healthy, emotionally stable person would choose a life facing discrimination and hatred from others if they had any control over it.

I am speaking only for myself.
I, so far as science can prove - so have no other guide, believe that people are sexual in response to the way they are put together in the womb by GOD. As humanity is learning more, I probably will have more data to make a more educated answer, hopefully before I die.

I'm a hetero, and I do without a doubt. Why?

Because no fool would willingly subject themselves to the scrutiny, abuse, and negativity that is heaped upon the gay community.

Most people either like or dislike the taste of chocolate and/or peanut butter; I don't know anyone who *chose* to like them.

Think about it.

Yes. All current, peer-reviewed research points to that. All the gay people I know will tell you that. Why do christians have so much trouble accepting reality? Why do they feel the need to judge everyone? If you really believe god is sending them to hell for being who they are, why do you need to torture them too? Just leave them alone.
