For my birthday my friend from work brought me brownies and then went to happy hour with myself and a few other coworkers. I had quite a bit to drink and she ended up driving me home. When she pulled up to my place I thanked her for everything and extended my hand for a shake. She then said, you don't shake your female friends hands you hug them. So I gave her a hug. Which was fine but I know she is seeing another coworker of mine so I didn't just force myself on her. Did I do the wrong thing?

You're asking if not behaving like a moron was the "wrong thing"? Why? How can not going after someone else's gf be wrong? You assume she'd have welcomed your advance (asking for a hug isn't an invitation for making-out or sex).

No, you didn't do the wrong thing but whether or not you are an idiot is undecided.

Girls often just like hugs. Its true, usually, that women like hugs more than handshakes. It was good that you played it safe with a ahdnshake, but if she invited you to hug her then it is perfectly fine! Just don't overstep your boundaries. A quick, friendly hug is okay, but a lingering, passionate one is out of the question is she is dating someone. Watch your steps, and if you don't feel comfortable hugging her just tell her so! Listen to your instincts, 'cause they'll be able to tell you what's right and what's wrong.

nope . im against the friendly hug because like any real man a hug spells f-o-r-e-p-l-a-y. why would i want to get up close if i cant get personal too ? i think the handshake is universal for i like you but im not looking to jump your bones. but when its male to male i feel like hugging is a good thing because it goes withgout saying , when dealing with don , that the question of sex was negated at birth cuz i was after all born a man and shall remain so . no offense to males that like males.

LOL no u didnt force ur self on her but she may have been hitting on u. She was probably a little buzzed and hit on u. Just leave it at that unless she does it again then let her know ur not comfortable with her doing this because u know she is in a relationship with someone else.

No, there was nothing wrong with a hug; you were, after all, trying to remain a gentleman.

No, no, no

There's nothing wrong with hugging female friends.

Most of my friends are girls, and most of them are dating male friends of mine. Yet I can't leave their house without getting hugs.

A hug is o.k.--but if you were uncomfortable with it, you should have just said so. A handshake is very gentlemanly!!

You ARE an idiot because you've asked this goddamn question already but phrased it differently. Stop it!
