I want to increase my credit limit but I'm afraid when I call to ask, they'll ask me if I still work at the same place or to provide a pay stub. I haven't worked in over a year, but have been using my savings to pay off my bills and always pay on time. If they find out I don't have a job will they deny me an increase, or worse...will they take away my credit card and contact the other card companies? What do you think?

I want to increase my limit so that I can make online purchases. It has nothing to do with want to buy more than what I have.

I have had my credit increased even when I wasn't working. They don't generally check employer information after they approve you for the card initially. I don't think they can take away your card if you make your payments.

If you don't have a job don't ask for an increase because that will only tempt you to buy more and will get you into trouble before you realize it. However, I have never had a card company ask if I was working etc before an increase. They usaully check your payment history etc.

I have been through a similar situation and I totally agree with georgiabankmartin's answer. Reread that response. It is very true. Please don't raise the credit line? Don't do it unless it is an emergency.
