I don't think parents teach their children to say things like that to others in a mean way. I think it is more likely that the parents have said it to the girl over and over again and she is very confused that the rest of the world hasn't heard it. The smart and kind person tells someone in authority, so that the child's parents and teachers can be notified and explain to her that not everyone is part of the same faith.
I have a sister-in-law who taught her kids stuff by telling them that that is just the way people do things and there is no alternate choice. She didn't do it meanly - she thought she was quite smart and it worked with her kids and made her life easier. Imagine the child's surprise when he started to realize that other people do things differently. Depending on what age the child is when they go to school and start to learn that, can put the child is a very embarassing situation.
Peace!

That's a nice way to get a reputation of being insane!
Your story reminds me of when I was in college in the early 90's. I went to a big Jesuit university. Almost every day this preacher would stand just outside the school boundary with a megaphone and his 7 year old son. He would hand the megaphone to his child so he could yell at everyone about being hell bound sinners, sexual perverts, blah blah..
It was really odd watching this child foam at the mouth with his father looking on yelling at a group of nuns.
Some people are crazy.
It's scary that there ARE parents who are exactly like (or some close form of psychosis!) the mom in Steven King's Carrie.

It may not be the most balanced way to raise a child, but I'd much rather put up with that, then live in a world where parents aren't allowed to pass on their religious beliefs to their children because it offends atheists and liberals.
Also, don't be so quick to assume that the girl's parents raised her to act out like that. She might have been acting out on her own because they weren't around. I know when I was a kid, I would say and do things at school that went against what my parents had taught me because I could get away with it at school. All kids do that at some point.

Yeah she probably is nuts by now. Her parents were nuts then.
Why can't people understand that lying about how one is saved does NOT bring converts to Christ. Telling the truth may, if done respect and sincerity. I think often the devil himself is working through these over zealous people, or at least he is smiling up fondly at them.

Its not wrong for parents to raise a child to believe in god. but her behavior in the cafeteria was totally inappropriate. You can say grace quietly to yourself, without yelling the absurd part about going to hell.

I think it's wrong. I like to think your faith is a personal thing and shouldn't be pushed on others. Everyone is entitled to believe and worship in their own way (as long as it doesn't harm anyone else).

LOL! My son got in trouble at day care for loudly refusing to eat pork, proclaiming that it was made of "PIG BUTTS". I taught him to not eat pork, but I had no idea he would make a scene over it.
After the teachers talked with me about it, I had a nice conversation with my son about how to politely decline food that he didn't want to eat. That girl's parents should have taught her how to politely evangelize at least.

I doubt that she was instructed by her parents to do this, specifically. You were a child, and likely had no concept of what may have made her do that.
I guess I would prefer parents teach their children about God than neglect their spiritual upbringing altogether.

The parents forgot to teach their child how to be courteous.
