You couldn't possibly be "overreacting". Your sensitivities belong to you and should be respected by the people who love you. It makes no sense for him to argue about what you feel in your own heart and it was inappropriate for him to say that you were overreacting. Perhaps if he said " I love that you have such a warm and affectionate disposition towards animals" then there would be no battle but instead greater respect. I have a feeling that it's his own callousness that annoys him....not your compassion.

I found it difficult to watch the video as well. "Working elephants"? Huh? Elephants are wild animals and not meant to "work" for humans for pete sakes. How about they get off their lazy butts and build a raft and some paddles instead of exploiting animals. They don't like it when people exploit thier resouces so I can't imagine the elephants are enjoying having their size and strength exploited. Unbelievable.

I thought it was a really nice film, never had seen elephants swim before but it didn't seem to me like the youngster 'almost drowned', the other two elephants would help it along as the comment said and it walked out of the water just fine, didn't look exhausted. I do know elephants love water, they usually don't have enough water to swim in zoo's and places but they very much like the water they can get there too! Nor did the mahmouts (sp?) abuse these elephants in any way, they poked a little with the stick but an elephant has a *very* thick skin, that's just how you give it commands.

I don't know what you're talking about and neither do you, hon. This is how elephants swim in deep water. They let their whole body sink down under the water with just their trunk up to breath once in a while, and they just swim slowly along. Elephants love the water, and have their own built-in snorkels. Elephants have tremendous strength and can swim a long way.

My answer to this question is yes, you are overreacting. Do some research and you'll see what I mean.

Although slightly cruel and unfair, i do believe that your boyfriend is right. Everything gets exploited in some ways, if you play the card you are at the moment. Think of horses that had to pull carts back before the automobile was invented. These elephants, although they are working, are probably treated like we would treat a pet out of its work hours. The video seems extremely one sided.

hmm, i didn't see the baby nearly drown! But it does seem a bit cruel, i didn't know that elephants could swim that far.

I hate seeing elephants on tv that go on rampages from being in a circus, they're wild animals, and then people have to shoot them and throw things at them to stop them. It's the stupid peoples fault in the first place for trying to get a wild animal to do tricks.

Great film. The elephants would swim like that without someone on their back - look at the baby. as if the human weight makes the difference

A break in violates your personal feeling of safety. Its almost as bad as rape or robbery. We feel safest in our homes. They are breaking through your sense of security. I recommend you get an alarm. You should always have one on your home. In addition, I'd get the gun. Gun if your best option. You have to protect yourself and property. If someone breaks in, the police aren't there to protect you. Its you and the burglar in the house together. Knowing the police are on their way doesn't protect you and doesn't always make them runaway. Nashville PD puts alarms as Code 2 calls, meaning they are not top priority. Response times depend on call volume, but typically, from the time of the alarm, the police here take about 15-20 minutes to get there. And, you've heard of stand-offs? Those are people that don't runaway when the police come. If the intruder has a gun, your crowbar will be useless. Hopefully you'll never have to use it, but the only way to protect yourself is to level the playing field. It's not paranoid to want to protect yourself. Good luck. Stay Safe.

I think you may be over reacting somewhat. You have to look at it from a different perspective, you can not view the video from your cultural prespective. This is part and probably a great part of their livilihood. They are not going to do anything to intentionally harm an elephant. This is what these animals are trained to do, and in their culture it is a necessary part of life. Really nothing to argue about. God bless****

You're overreacting. These guys are professionals. Their livelihoods depend on the elephants..they're not going to let anything bad happen to the elephants. I'm more concerned about the ruthless exploitation of the forest's timber.

Now, kiss and make up.

Sorry sahara i think your boyfriends right, it all looked under control to me, the elephants didn't appear distressed, things are different in other parts of the world, who are we to interfere?...
