I have an extra old computer. While I was changing the uploading screen (when the window logo appears, was changing it to another another pic) it "crashed". When I rebooted the computer, it said it might have been corrupted. and said to press "r". Then it said you have to install window XP AGAIN! DELL(this computer) Did NOT have give a backup Window OS CD. So what else can be done? thanks.

most dell pc's have a recovery partition built onto the hard drive
what it actually is is the xp cd with a branded way in (DELL)
try pressing F8 as it boots and it will bring up a menu
your dell restore feture should be in there
if its not f8... then im not sure (i dont run a dell)
goto dell site and check what their recovery option key is

You can write an e-mail to Dell and order the recovery disks. Dell might charge you a small fee, but it would be worth it.

Find a friend with the same pc, and borrow their CD.

All it needs is to reinstall a couple of files. This is legal.
