I have been reading many post about dogs and seeing what other people have to say and people like this make me sooooo angry!!!

one person writes:

The BBC news item below (Jan 2007) tells how a Pit Bull terrier savagely killed a 5 year old girl and almost killed her grandmother. The dog was owned by the little girl's uncle.

These dogs are banned in the UK under the Dangerous Dogs act of 1991. The Pit Bull is the FIRST dog to be specifically identified under this law and it is an offence to breed them or to sell them. The clear intention of the law is to rid the UK of all Pit Bull Terriers.

However you try, you cannot justify the risk to children. It would be better to rid the world of these dogs than to have one more little girl die in this horrific way. Enough said....I hope.

DONT YOU WISH YOU SHOULD EXTERMINATE AND RID THE WORLD OF PEOPLE LIKE THIS

ladies and gentlemen you cant always listen to everything you read and see on the news....its there to get a reaction.

and just so everyone knows. I have done extensive studying of dog breeds and animal behavior. I have also worked at an animal shelter where I have had to see many ofmy favorite dogs..a few of the pit bulls be euthanized because of stupid people like that.
also I am training and going to school to
become and animal behaviorist and a dog trainer and I hope to one day own a shelter where I can rehabilitate this poor breed and shove it in every pit haters face!

People, in general, are stupid. They don't seem to understand that once you start dealing with breed specific legislation, you are on that slippery slope!

Many people don't know, or want to forget, about the eugenics movement in the United States. What this is, is legislation (that happens to still be on the books) that allows the government to sterilize people whom it feels are a danger to themselves or to others. It cause mass sterilizations of hundreds of people in this country alone! Once we start ordering "bad" dog breeds sterilized, we will headed back down that path!

Pit bulls are one of my favorite dog breeds. They are so loyal and smart and loving. It is so unfair how people judge the dogs and they don't even know them. The poor dogs that just want to love are hated for no good reason. And it's funny how all you hear about are the maulings, yet no one ever mentions the therapy, or service, or search and rescue dogs that happen to be pit bulls.

"However you try, you cannot justify the risk to children. It would be better to rid the world of these dogs than to have one more little girl die in this horrific way"

They are just as much of a risk as any other of the larger breeds of dogs. Plus, there are so many other risks to children, like cars and plastic bags, and swimming pools... why not rid the world of those?

The way some people talk about wanting to exterminate the breed, it sounds like hitler.

I actually like pit bulls, as a vet tech I got a feel for animals that responded bad as a breed, and pit bulls were not on my list of dogs to keep both eyes on when handling. :) The only problem I see with the breed is abusive owners that intentionally make the dogs mean, then they have the potential to do quit a bit of harm, because that is what they were bred to do (harm other dogs). In a normal family and house they are good dogs.

Top of my list of dogs I didn't trust with the owner out of the room was shar-pei's. They would turn into cujo once the owner left half the time.

I think this question has had major overkill on here. i do agree though, that they are portrayed negatively in the news when it is the owners who are to blame for problems. There are more dog bites occuring with different breeds, but the media focuses on what will shock and amaze. They find one thing that people may have a fear of, and they play on it. I think alot of people though have never been around a pit. All they know of them is what they see in the news. They are simply uneducated with the breed.

yes, i hate ignorant people when it comes to pits. pits are not the monster that the media portrays them to be. its the assholes like the young thug and drug dealers that breed them to fight so that they can sell them underground for thousands of dollars. i personally love the breed and done extensive research on them. they were bred to be dog aggressive only. during a fight they had to be handled by someone other than their owner for safety reasons. these dogs that these fools are breeding arent pure bred pits. the pit bulls genetics become unstable when bred to a different breed which results in these crazy *** look a like dogs. these dogs are mentally unstable and no amount of training can help. its because of these dogs that true American pit bull terriers are about to become extinct. its a shame.

SH*T I HATE IT TOO. I HAVE A PIT BULL MIX, BUT SINCE SHE WAS TAKEN IN WHEN SHE WAS A PUPPY THEY WROTE HER DOWN AS PIT BULL. SO KNOW I HAVE TO MAKE SURE WHERE EVER I LIVE THEY WILL ACCEPT HER EVEN THOUGH SHE IS A BIG P*SSY AND JUST WANTS TO LOVE ON PEOPLE.

PEOPLE READ THE HORROR STORIES ABOUT THEM AND THINK THAT THEY JUST COME OUT LIKE THAT, BUT IT IS REALLY THE PERSON WHO RAISES THE ANIMAL. THE TRAINER OR MASTER HAS A PROFOUND EFFECT ON A DOGS TEMPERMENT.

PIT BULLS ARE NATURALLY ROWDY ENERGETIC DOGS. WHAT THEY WERE ORIGINALLY BREED FOR INDICATES THEY MUST HAVE SOME AGGRESION IN THEM. ALTHOUGH, WITH GOOD, CARING OWNERS THEY ARE THE MOST LOYAL, LOVING, AND SWEET DOGS. THE AGGRESSION WILL NEVER COME OUT IT YOU DONT BRING IT OUT

My dog is a 9 year old amstaff. Yes I do hate the ignorance about bully breeds. But then I have a problem with ignorant pet owners with any breed or mixed breed.

I take on board what you say, but the danger is in the type of person who may get to own one of these dogs. Better for dogs to be killed than children.
