As a Christian, I feel embarassed at the way some of those who call themselves my fellow Christians behave towards others. My God is a God of unconditional love and mercy, but the reason He gives us free will is that he also has unconditional respect for us. I hope that instead of using Y! Answers to flame those who don't agree with us, my fellow Christians will join me in showing others that same unconditional respect for those who don't share our beliefs. Christ and his apostles never shoved it down anyone's throat, and neither should we.
If you're moved to respond, please indicate a) whether or not you consider yourself to be "Christian"; and b) why you think many on here believe that flaming and name-calling and ramroding are effective evangelism tools.

Like you, I have found that smacking someone over the head physically or figuratively with an 8x10 bible to be less than effective.
Calling names, lack of respect towards others (no matter what point of view they are coming from) is no different than the schoolyard bully approach to attempting to get ones way at any cost.
I am a Christian. Don't toss around the name of the church that I attend as if it were some special banner or 'get out of hell free' card. I am not 'perfect' - but I am 'forgiven'.

It makes me mad sometimes, and other times I just let it pass because some people are just trying to be friendly. It only makes me angry when people call me "honey " or "sweetie" when they say it just because they know my age (14) or that I'm under 18. Some people have the pre-concieved notion that no one my age can be mature. But I kind of understand it. People who are older than I am do have more experience and more wisdom, and when they say "sweetie" or "honey" it is sometimes a reference to my youthful innocence; that is, I haven't experienced much without it being decided for me. I haven't seen the world as much so therefore I haven't seen many lifestyles different than my own, meaning I can't really compare my situation to many others so I can't make the wisest descisions in some situations.

I don't normally come into this section but I'm here for this question since a Christian referred it to me.
a) I am most certainly NOT a christian!!!!
b) I *AM* totally disgusted with 'christian' trolls that show up in every category with no other purpose than to shove christian propaganda down our throats!
The simple fact of the matter is that anyone that goes into the other sections of Answers spewing y'alls stuff is an insecure fool!
I don't shove my beliefs down others throats (well, except maybe this once) and would appreciate the same courtesy in return.
Instead of polluting the other areas, why don't y'all instead spend your time asking, begging and pleading with Yahoo to break this ridiculously broad category into smaller sub-category's! One for fundy Xtians, one for Catholics, Hindu, Islam, Judaism, Jain, Shinto, Wicca, Bhuddist, Atheist, Protestant, Methodist, Lutheran, 7th Day Adventist, Deist, Pagan etc., so forth and so on.
Stop wasting time on every-ones differences and instead concentrate on what's largely the same. A belief in some form or fashion of afterlife. And the usual consensus that killing in some form or fashion is wrong.
I now leave this section (with relief) so y'all can resume your usual petty bickering (but please refrain from spreading it elsewhere). Thank you and good day!

I am a Blood-washed born-again Christian and have been for over thirty years. No Christian should ever force the Gospel on anyone. We are not supposed to criticize one for refusing Jesus. These are not effective evangelism tools. Respectively leave the "door" open for another soul winner.

I agree that we should not call others names,or tell people flat out they are going to Hell. As a Christian though it is our responsibility to tell EVERYONE about the Gospel, and I will not be used as a doormat to those who think otherwise. No Christian is expected to tie down and let people run all over them, Jesus never did. If you do not feel the need to tell people about God, and how to receive salvation I question your salvation!!!

Isn't it name calling to call people "so-called Christians"? Are you saying they aren't Christian if they try to evangelize? lol
Beyond that, I'd have to say that I've always tried to show respect to people asking questions, if I've seemed rude it probably was not my intention, but it is really hard to inflect tone online.
