Warm water, and a blow dryer and a pin brush. A good shampoo and if needed a conditioner (if long hair).

Well, I have a large, shaggy dog who, unfortunately, needs frequent baths, particularly at this time year (he has these scaly, scabby skin eruptions that require regular bathing w/ a vet-prescribed medicated shampoo). He's lying here, wet, right now. :)
Anyhow, I am NOT a dog grooming expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I usually towel dry him, as best I can, and then let him "air dry", until he's almost dry but still slightly damp. At that point, I comb through his hair, to minimize knotting and matting. I live in the northeast, so it is COLD here, so (while he's wet), I turn the heat up a bit and try to keep him covered w/ a dry towel, so that he doesn't get cold or "shivery". I've tried blow-drying, but it seems to irritate his skin, even on low-heat settings. Anyhow, as long as he doesn't get too cold (if it's cold where you live, you probably shouldn't wash him and leave him outside w/ damp/wet hair), and as long as you brush/comb him, so that he doesn't get matted, it probably won't kill him if you simply air dry -- even if it isn't the preferred method. :)

Warm water, test it on your wrist and make it slightly cooler than you would find comfy. Use a good conditioner along with shampoo, and rinse both out thoroughly. DO NOT AIR DRY! Air drying shaggy dogs causes the hair to matt up and he will end up needing to be shaved. You'll have to blow dry him and brush him out as he dries until he's completely dry to keep his coat untangled. If that's too much work, consider finding a professional, a good bath from a groomer is fairly priced, and they'll do the ears and nails for you too along with bathing, blow drying, and brushing.

The water should be warm but not hot, and it's probably best to atleast towel him off as much as you can. I usually decide based on how warm it is outside, during she summer I towel most of the water off and then let the rest air dry if it's freezing then I make sure I dry him all the way off just in case he needs to go outside soon.

The water should be warm. But watch out-a dogs body temp. is 10 degrees higher then ours so 70 degree water is 80 to him. I would towel dry him/her and then let him shake it off. But if he starts shivering then get out the towel again and rub him like crazy. Good Luck!

I always use a doggie detangler on shaggy dogs. This allows me to comb the hair out as they are drying. I allow them to air dry if they are in a warm house or it is hot outside. I blow dry if it's cold out. Nice warm water, not hot, should do the trick.
