The founder is L. Ron Hubbard, the science FICTION writer who once told a friend that the best way to make lots of money is to start your own religion. Though being a very outspoken critic of psychiatric drugs, it was discovered upon Hubbard’s death that the anti-anxiety drug hydroxyzine (Vistaril™) was present in his body, which several of his assistants would later attest was only one of many psychiatric & pain medications Hubbard ingested over the years. (visit this link to read about the uses of hydroxyzine: http://www.drugs.com/mtm/v/vistaril.html )
L. Ron Hubbard, “prophet” of Scientology, has been quoted as saying: "Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion" http://lisatrust.freewinds.cx/scientology/hubbard.htm
Even more proof that Scientology is out for your money... here is Hubbard discussing turning the business of Scientology into a "religion" for profit:
"I am not quite sure what we would call the place - probably not a clinic - but I am sure that it ought to be a company, independent of the HAS (Hubbard Association of Scientologists) but fed by the HAS. We don't want a clinic. We want one in operation but not in name. Perhaps we could call it a Spiritual Guidance Center. Think up its name, will you. ... It is a problem of practical business. I await your reaction on the religion angle." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology_controversy#L._Ron_Hubbard_and_starting_a_religion_for_money
He was also an occult enthusiast, claiming close friendship with and drawing inspiration from Alister Crowley. http://www.xs4all.nl/~kspaink/cos/essays/jacobsen_magic.html

Ron L. Hubbard was a science fiction writer in the 1950s.
He founded the school of Scientology, a quasi religious organisation, and wrote his own Ten Commandments for his disciples.
Many believe it is a force for good, but others think they're a bunch of crackpots.

L. Ron Hubbard was a fiction writer who was a bigamist, cult leader, liar and the creator of the religion known as Scientology. He learned that if he wanted to make money, he needed to create his own religion. He did just that. Today millions of people follow his concocted ideas. They spend millions of dollars going to sessions in the hope that they will get 'clear' of 'engrams' or negative emotions. There is no god in his 'religion'. The pros of his life was probably his prolific fiction writing. The negative is that so many have been dubped by his fake religion.

Lafayette R Hubbard was a B grade sci-fi writer who developed Scientology which is designed to relieve people of money as quickly as possible - but sort of legally. Unless you are rich, don't even think about joining.

Your not going to get much factual information about L.Ron Hubbard on this forum. He was an author, philosopher and humanitarian. He was also the founder of Dianetics and Scientology.
There is an official website that will give you more information.
It's www.lronhubbard.org (I think)

L. Ron Hubbard was a rather mediocre science fiction writer who once observed, "If you want to make a lot of money, found a religion," and then went on to prove it.

He started the money-making cult called scientology. He was a previously broke science fiction story who made up a science fiction story involving alien warlords, nuclear/volcanic genocide and turned it into a cult for the weak minded.
He didn't do anything good except for his bank account. I suggest watching the link to see what were the bad things he and his cult followers did.
Cheers!

There is a rumor that he did it on a bet. Don't know if it true or not, but it seems reasonable to me.

He was a science fiction writer. He wrote a sort of self help book called Dianetics about tortured alien spirits possessing humans and causing them stress, and what to do to allieviate that stress.
Some people think he is serious and formed a "religion" around his "teachings" called Scientology. These people are crazy. Tom Cruise is one of them if that tells you anything.
