The best cheap way to get rid of worms for your cat without taking it to the vet is to buy Worm Away. You can get this from your local dollar store or any other store where you might find worm medicines.

Well, this may depend on what type of worms your cat has. The most common are heart, tape, whip, and round. Usually tape (segmented, flat and, long, are seen poking out the butt) and round (larger varieties are unsegmented and essentially round bodied) are found the most.
Most pet stores sell over-the counter remedies for specifically round or tape worms. This can be a temporary solution to keeping the worms under control to spare your pet's well-being; however, they will need to see a vet to completely get rid of the nasty things for you. It does not mean kitty will not get reinfected by contaminated dirt or feces that have eggs in it. As much as we dread seeing the doctor, your cat seeing the vet regularly will be your best option in the future.

You can try your local feed store and see if they sell a general wormer for cats, I know they do for dogs. The only problem is it may not treat the specific worm your cat has. Your best bet is to call your local vet and ask if you can take a fecal sample and purchase wormer after it is read. It may only cost around $25 if they will do that. Most vets will since they want to treat the animal.

OK, I'm going to try to tell you what I did and I hope I make sense. I have five cats and didn't want to worry about them getting worms.
I bought a medication called "Liquid Wormer" at Walmart...cost about 4 bucks. I took an eye-dropper and filled it about half full (look at the dosage amount on the box).
With each cat, I got behind their head and body, lifted their head slightly back to me, used my thumb and forefinger to put into where their bottom lip meets the lower to hold their teethe and mouth open and squeezed this medication into it
They reacted normally, like trying to take some foreign object out of their mouth, then licked their lips and went on down the way.
I have a large dog, Retriever, and learned to medicate him the same way.
Please try this. Ones cat or any pet is very dear and even though they are mostly self-sufficient, they do need TLC just as humans.

The cheapest way is to go to your vet and ask for something called Strongid T - they usually sell it over the counter. It's a paste that you can give to your cat, and as worms are something that need prevention as well as treatment, they'll usually give you enough to give him/her a monthly dose. I think a year's supply cost me about $12.
You can also get something called Revolution, which is that "drop" you put on the back of their neck once a month - it's great because it kills/repels fleas and ticks as well as any type of worm or parasite they can get.

There are different kinds of worms. Tape worms, round worms, hookworms, etc. so if you buy a de-wormer from a pet store make sure it the right one.

It should only cost about $15 at the vet if you just see a vet tech - a quick shot - in and out. Over the counter products usually do not work very well.
Just walk through a parking lot and pick up change.
