since cookies obviously got their name from the fact that they are cooked... how come we changed it and say bake?

baking means to put something in the oven and bake it until its done, just like something on the stove top is frying it or boiling it, you dont boil things in an oven you do that on the stove top. Cookies are baked. Cooking means just making some food, so just you are cooking but you are also baking. Would you say i am cooking some noodles or i am boiling some noodles.

Well, first of all, cookies did NOT get their name from the fact that they are cooked. If that were the case, everything that is cooked would have the same name, or at least part of the same name! Things that are prepared on top of the stove are usually referred to as "cooked." Things that are prepared in the oven are usually referred to as "baked." Cookies are prepared in the oven, hence the expression "baked cookies." Hope that clears things up for you.

I guess cuz you cook on the stove top and you can't make cookies there. Baking is done in the oven and that's how you make cookies.
So....I think that's why people say bake cookies.

Because when something is baked it is in the oven like most cookies are, and when they're cooked it is on the stove, I think.

bake is something done in the oven cook is stove top . broil is under the top element in the oven . fry is in a pan or deep fryer.
roast is in oven with lid on most often . you can have cookies that are cooked on the stove top such as oatmeal drop cookies otherwise known as funeral cookies
