Why are certan rugs and vases called ORIENTAL? is it because they are from the "orient"? if so, where is that?

the word oriental simply means "eastern" so it doesnt neccessarily mean that something comes from China or Japan or Korea, Vietnam etc. it could mean Turkey, Iraq, India, Thailand, Cambodia etc.

The original items were from the orient. Now it is more a style, like southwest. The Orient includes Asia, Africa, and Middle East.
