We've been good friends for years, and just started going out a few months ago. Her birthday is coming up this weekend, and i got her a small diamond necklace and took her to a fancy french restaurant (Chez Nous in Houston) for our first valentines just last week. i'm not sure what i should get her since i've already done jewelry and fine dining. friday night we're celebrating with a dinner with her parents, and then we'll be in san antonio, tx that saturday for a few hours in the afternoon. any thoughts on what i should get or what we could do?

Well, no matter what you get her, you can never go wrong with a humongous bouquet of roses on the side. Unless she's the type who doesn't like extravagance (and she doesn't sound like that).

Hmm....it really depends on who she is and what her personality is like. The best gifts reflect that the giver really knows the receiver of the gift. And personally, I think the best gifts are unique, too.

If all else fails, you could always go with perfume....wine glasses...an awesome piece of artwork or photography that matches other things she has...etc. You'll be fine. I'm sure she'll love whatever you get.

In San Antonio? The Riverwalk! If it's just a few hours, have a drink or something in a little place and watch the boats on the river. It'll be romantic.

The key is planning so your gift reflects maximum thought and allows for greatest creativity. I have a friend whose boyfriend built her a jewelry box from scratch and painted it her favorite color. Another friend's guy bought her 14 trinkets from the dollar store and wrote poems about their relationship on each of them. It doesn't have to be anything expensive, just something to show you put time into thinking about what to get.

if you have a lot of pictures of you and her....then maybe you can make her a hand-made scrapbook. You can write down what was going through your head at the time of the picture, or write what the picture's about. Anything hand-made by you will mean so much more than anything bought. it'll show a great deal of thought and effort went into it and she'll appreciate it! good luck!

if you`ve already bought her a diamond necklace and you`ve only been together for a few months..maybe you should ease up a little..she might think you are trying to buy her and any self-respecting woman won`t want that...why don`t you try a picnic
