I understand how to cut corners...but i dont want to nail through front of molding to cabinets...if possible...besides just nailing the bottom wouldn't be strong enough to hold it,,,is there something you put behind molding on top of the cabinets...

there is a glue made especially for crown moldings and chair rails. its super strong and will hold it on the cabinet tops with no problem. you may have to hold it on temporarily with small finishing nails which can be removed after its set or just sink them into the molding and cover the tiny hole with filler then sand lightly and paint over--you'll never see the hole.

Actually it is strong enough. Place it about 3/4" below the top of the cabinets. Using a finish nail-er will make it an easy job. Also nail the top of the molding at the corners. You can nail a one by to the cabinet top, if you want to.

Use a brad nailer or finishing nailer. Go ahead and nail to the cabinets if you use some kind of shim or wood inbetween, you will see a gap. If you want, use wood glue. Use chalk over the nail and wipe the excess with your finger. Let dry and paint. Nailing the bottom will hold.

I used a finishing nail gun and they are fine I put the molding on two years ago and as long as no one hangs on them they'll be fine. If you are that concerned put a light bead of wood glue then nail the trim. If you don't own a finish nailer you can rent one.

You will have to nail it to the front, If you don't, there will be gaps along the cabinet. If you also glue and nail. then you will not need backing reinforcement,
