The kitchen tool you need is called a mandoline. This gadget will slice your apples, potatoes, onions etc. nice and thin. They also do a few other styles of cuts such as a julienne and a ruffled type cut. There are a few different models to choose from, and range in price from the inexpensive plastic units, to the high quality stainless steel versions found in commercial kitchens. The best one I've found is made by the "Bron" company, and although a bit pricey, it will last for years and is an indispensible tool in my kitchen. I hope this helps!

Yes, you can use a mandolin. All kitchen stores will have them - even Macy's. You slide the apple against the mandolin, which is a flat board with a blade it in. Most mandolins come with different kinds of blades, including one for thin flat slices, one for julienne slices (long skinny slices) and a few other types as well.

Try a mandolin slicer, it's much safer. Just keep your fingers away from the slicer it is SHARP. Here's a link to see what it looks like, but you can pick one up at Target, bed Bath & Beyond, just about any kitchen supply store and even ebay. lol. Good luck!

PS: I don't know what you are using the apples for, but you can also try a spiral slicer that will get them pretty thin.

In Culinary School we used a tool called a mandolin, looks like a grater, only it has a real sharp blade. That tool is a little dangerous, but will give you thin slices of apples and/or any other vegetable.

Some flat cheese graters come with a part that is for making SLICES of cheese. Instead of little holes to grate cheese, there's a long thickish line. You can try "slicing" your apple on that.

Name: Deliciouse Apple Crisps Serving Size: Depends on how your cut the apple Ingredients: 4 washed red deliciouse apples, a clean knife, cutting board, Medium sized bowl of sugar, medium sized bowl of maplesyrup, frying pan, bowl, and wooden spoon, a pan with wax paper on top of it. What to do. With your apple cut each apple into thin strips. lay them on the frying pan on top of the stove but your dial on low flip the apples occasionsally after about three minuets at each side of the apple strips. While the apple strips are in the frying pan take your bowl of sugar and melt them over the stove. After the sugar melts add the maple syrup and stir make sure the paste of maple syrup and sugar are sticky and not smooth. Afterwards retrieve the apples that were in the frying pan and place them on the cutting board. Clean your knife and chop them in half if desired( Better to cut them in half for small chilfren.) Take your apples and add them to a clean bowl. add in your paste. When the apples are covered with the paste put each apple on the pan with wax paper. Put them in the oven on medium mode. Wait thirty minuets. When the apples come out the sugar on the apples should have slightly hardened. EAT warm!!! Enjoy!!! How to enjoy them the most: Take them to the living room in a nice plate with wax paper on the bottom take as many forks as needed bring cups of warm milk with a little honey in them. My mother never made me these when I was little but I had this really dear friend of mine that I used to go home with and her mother gave me these and told me how to make them
