Im paranoid about cot death even now she was 3 two months ago.
The whole overheating thing worries me. The thing is, she has aching legs and the only thing that soothes them is a rather warm hot bottle.
It's safe, can't leak, and the water isn't THAT hot anyway. Is this safe?

as long as u use common sense, which from the sounds of things, u do, it will be fine. i have a 4 year old son, and he's had a hot water bottle in bed with him these past 3 days as he's had a stomach bug. as long as it's not overly hot, and the stopper is too tight for them to undo, then u don't have anything to worry about. my son's hot water bottle has a furry cover, which also helps to prevent little fingers from playing with the stopper, and keeps the bottle warm for longer. i also tend to fill it with water out of the hot tap rather than from the kettle, so i can test the heat of the water with my hand as it goes into the bottle. try not to worry - u are doing the best thing for your daughter, and the main thing is that she is getting relief from the aches in her legs. it's true that u have to be careful not to let little babies overheat - they are not able to regulate their body temperature efficiently, so can be at risk of overheating, but your daughter is past that age now, and i'm sure she will be able to push down the covers or throw the hot water bottle out of her bed if she feels too warm.

Child Hot Water Bottle

As you seem to be taking a cautious, commonsense approach there should be no problem in using a hot water bottle. I would only use tap water that is not hot enough to hurt my hand, adding a little cold if necessary. Also, for a child, to eliminate any risk of leakage, I would always use a new bottle - not one that I have had for a long time.

You can buy pads that go in the microwave, they don't have water so can't burst, leak or be opened. That would put your mind at rest. But a water bottle is fine as long as it has a tight stopper and a cover.

Yes, it is absolutely safe! Just make sure the water is not too hot in case it bursts! When she is asleep you can go and take it out...that will put your mind at rest.
