There is nothing particularly dangerous with a wrist tattoo. My inner wrist tat was almost painless. But, I strongly advise you to wait two more years. Reevaluate your heart idea, and if you still want it, rock on.

I just had a tattoo on my left wrist done last week. It does hurt, but the tattoo artist will stop every inch or so and wipe excess ink off with paper towel, so that gives you a break. The good thing is that your tattoo sounds small so it'll be over quick. When you are done, you'll wonder why you freaked out so much! =) Just go do it. You'll live through it. I think I am a wimp and I made it! Go do it today and get it over with already! You'll love the outcome...oh go get some Aquaphor for aftercare..you'll need that stuff. I specifically got my tattoo in a spot that my wristband would cover when I work. I took my watch in to make sure. Also I normally wear a charm bracelet when not at work. Seriously, not many people have even noticed that I have a tattoo there. It took my kids a whole day to see it!

It's wonderful that your parents are giving you the freedom to make your own decisions. They must think very highly of you and your maturity.
You may even want to reconsider whether you want to have a marking on your body that will remain with you forever. You obviously are mature enough to realize that you will go through many different phases in your life and while you want to have hearts tattooed on your skin now at age 16, you may not feel the same way in your 30s.
If you do think that you will appreciate your 16-year-old decisions as a middle-aged adult (though I can honestly tell you from experience that you likely will not), I would suggest you get the tattoo in a place that can be concealed if and when you get a corporate job. Even though companies are not supposed to discriminate based upon body art, there are subsconscious biases associated with body art that may interfere with your objectives in the corporate world. Therefore, I would NOT get a tattoo on my inner wrist, as an interviewer would see this and draw conclusions either consciously or subconsciously that could affect your employment, promotion, and other potential for achievement.
This, of course, holds true for other venues including (but not limited to) dating, your future children's school communities, etc.
All I'm trying to say is that your parents have given you free reign to make a decision that will affect the rest of your life, to some degree. That's huge. So there is a lot to consider, and I'm trying to give you a big-picture view, because you can't possibly have this viewpoint yet.
I hope you find this helpful in your decisionmaking, and I wish you the best.

Don't do it until you don't have to ask what to get. That is the sign that it wont mean enough to you. A tattoo isn't for someone else or because it's cute now, it is for you forever and whether or not I agree with your parents allowing it, wait. Draw out some ideas and put them away, next time you clean your room or run across them ask yourself if you still like the idea and if it still have meaning to you. If it doesn't then don't get it. Give it like a year to mull over. If you are drawing the same thing time after time do it at a good shop. I am getting mine on my inner wrist soon, there aren't any more risks than any where else.

I think tattoos are great, and can be very addictive. Once you get your first one you want more.I have two and am designing another one to go on my wrist. I think 16 is still a little too young and I'm surprised that your parents think it's a good idea at that age. You have to really think that this is what you want, also the style and design. It may look good on paper but once that needle starts, there's no going back. I was 19 when i got my first one and that took me over a year to decide what i actually wanted. If you do go for it, try designing one yourself and not go for just picking one out of the book. It's much more personal and meaningful. But remember tattoos are for life!

Honestly, since you're only 16 I'd go with a tattoo that can be easily covered up with regular clothes. I say that because it isn't going to look especially professional to have tattoos on your wrists when you get into your 20's and start looking into careers. Maybe get them on your hip or the top of your foot so you can see them while you're in a bikini or something along those lines.
Good luck, and really think things through before you get them. I've had mine for quite a few years and I'm glad I got it someplace that isn't out in the open for everyone to see. It's unfortunate, but some people WILL judge you for having tattoos.

Not "dangerous" so long as you make sure you're going to a reputable tattoo artist who has EXPERIENCE TATTOOING WRISTS - the wrists are an area with very thin skin and can too easily be tattooed too deep - which will result in smudgy, not very nice-looking lines. What I would do is find an artist you think you like, then see if they have a portfolio of pictures of wrist tattoos that they've done before. Make sure that they're HEALED tattoos in the pictures, not freshly done...
I have mine done (have had it done in three seperate parts) and didn't find that it was too painful at all.

I have one on my wrist that I adore (and for the record I have a very good job in a corporate environment in NYC, so it won't preclude you from a career if you're smart about covering it up properly). It's no more dangerous there than other areas.
That being said, I do think it would be wise to wait to get inked in that area, since you are so young. They are more challenging to cover up on the wrist. You should be sure about what you want to get as well & not make an impulsive choice.

OK just to let you know! THEY WON"T HIT A VEIN!!!!!!!! they would have to pierce through your first, second and third layers of your skin then it would also have to get through the small fat layer in everyone's skin! The needle on the tattoo gun only goes through the epidermis then "plants" the ink into the dermis of your skin! It's not really that bad as most people think it would be! It might hurt a bit but it won't make you bleed like puncturing your vein! Just relax and find a good tattoo artist that will walk you through the process! I also think you should wait until your 18 to make a large decision. 16 is a bit too young! I didn't get mine until i was about 20, just to make sure i knew thats what i wanted!
