Is it in writing? or all by trust and word out of mouth? I would not pay him another penny, I think for one that was VERY exspenisve and leave it at that, had he told you ahead of time it was going to be more he should have spoke up other wise to bad for him, your daughter will come around eventually, they must know you have money to spare and are fully taking advantage of you don't let them do it

This is why you shouldn't hire relatives. With anyone else, they would have had it in writing and there would be no question or raising it $2000. This sounds like a awfully lot of money to paint a 2000 square foot home. I think you got a rip off (but don't tell your daughter that).

A mother and a daughter not speaking because of $2000 is sad.

You and your daughter should both agree that there should have been a contract to spell out exactly what was supposed to be done and for how much.

Since that wasn't done....chalk this up to "knowing better the next time".

Absolutely not! I'd want to know exactly why the quote had risen 2000.00 no matter who did the job. If your son in law is a professional he shouldn't even question this and your daughter should recognize that. You're well within your rights to want to know what your money is being spent on.

I wouldn't apologize to him. He quoted you $4500 and charged $6500. He under-estimated when you should always over-estimate when you give an estimate (especially when it is your son-in-law). You most certainly have the right to question a $2000 difference in a quote if you ask me!

Your daughter is a brat. This is business situation and you handled it as such. But it's always a bad idea to do business with family. Are you wrong, hell no. If anyone is wrong, it's your son-in-law for being inarticulate. But is this really that important to have this kind of strife? You might as well apologize unless your better off not talking to your brat of a daughter.

your daughter is selfish, you are in the right, if my mother needed her house painted i would have done it for free.
