Champagne is not a recognized color, in this case it sounds like "rare" really means off standard, which is BAD. It is rare because good breeders stick to a standard. Find a different breeder if they tell you otherwise. And, as people have already said, they are german. Standard Poodles were also retrievers, their special cut was to allow them to swim easily yet still protect joints from cold damage. Perhaps a name to convey this instead of the idea that they are just fully useless dogs. I agree, Beamer would be a cute name, and if people asked you about it it would also give you a chance to educate them about the origin of the breed. According to the AKC history, I also suggest Durer, Goya, and Louis: "Drawings by the German artist, Albrecht Durer, establish the breed in the 15th and 16th centuries. It was the principal pet dog of the latter 18th century in Spain, as shown by the paintings of the Spanish artist, Goya. And France had Toy Poodles as pampered favorites during the reign of Louis XVI at about the same period. "

I keep thinking of Apricot Jam on hot buttered toast ... hmmm.

What about Jambo or Toaster?

There's advice on how to choose a name on this website:

along with loads & loads of suggestions.

Just seen the Ambrosia suggestion ... unfortunately it sounds a bit girly ... but Ambrose doesn't - so, what about Ambrose?
(that's if you don't like the Toaster or Jambo suggestions, lol)

Skeeter is a good name for a poodle. My mom had a black one named that and he lived to be 15.
