Please understand my metaphor. In my opinion. What if you had three choices. One that was truly beautiful, one that is beautiful and one that is ugly. The The beautiful and the ugly are the same. When you turn from the ugly you run to the beautiful. At the same time the truly beautiful is emulated by the beautiful. When something is deceptive it has to trick you. It has to create something to run from so that a person has to run to it. You shouldn't have to be scared into a moral life. It should lay on you like a blanket. That's why I think that the image is the way it is. Satan shines bright because he knows as much as God. Only God shines brighter because He is truth. When a person is in the dark, they will run to the nearest light sometimes not thinking about where the light is coming from.

The Bible doesn't really say much (if anything?) about the devil's appearance. The way he is percieved now is a distortion of older pagan dieties, namely the god Pan. Demonizing the existing pagan dieties made it easier for the church to gain 'converts'. The devil has had lots of different appearances- ie. at one point in history he was usually depicted as being blue- the modern scary one is the image that seems to have stuck.

Well originally he was one of the highest stationed angels.. so I doubt God would've made him ugly, he was a light bearer of the heavens... Humans like to make evil beings as ugly as possible to scare people. I think we'd lose a lot of God's people over to Lucifer if he looked like Brad Pitt....

As Lucifer in heaven he was beautiful, when sin entered in and he was cast out, he became ugly. He can still disguise himself as an angel of light.
