Get on the "Do Not Call" registry. Do a search on "do not call", and follow the links. It's free, and subjects telemarketers to a fine if they continue to call.

Go here and it will allow you to register your phone number so telemarketers can't harass you! The registration is valid for 5 years but must be redone if you change your phone number and does not apply to businesses you do business with and/or have accounts with! Telemarketers MUST stop calling you 30 days from the date of your phone number reservation or you can file a grievance against the business with the FCC! Usually, if you inform them you are on the "Do Not Call List" they will stop immediately wrather than face fines from the FCC! Cell phone numbers can be registered as well as "land lines"!

One other thing do not sign up for any contests for free cars or anything else at mall the or anywhere. Because sometimes when you sign at the bottom you give them permission to call you OR sell your name and number. Be warned telemarketers are low life's and dirt bags.

I don't know if this works, but a recent spam e-mail I received recently sounds like a cool idea. When they call, tell them "Hold a second" and then put the phone down (don't hang up.) After five minutes, hang up the phone.

Register on donotcall.gov, and whenever you get an unwanted telephone solicitor, the magic words are "Please put me on your 'do not call' list."
