yeah it will hurt. but when i got my tattoo, it hurt worse on the fatty parts then it did on the boney part. yeah, i would definatley take a friend with you not only for a hand to sqeeze, but it relaxes you too.

Really, you're not going to have any sensation of a needle poking you. I think often times people see that there's needles involved and immidately think they're getting a slab of skin taken off or something.
The needles will be drawn out on your skin, which will be irritating and probably burn.
Your endorphines kick in though after about 5 minutes and help with the pain, so after that you're smooth sailing.
Anyone can sit down and handle the pain of a tattoo. Just go in there focusing on how awesome your tattoo is going to look. The pain is temporary and probably a lot less than your imagining up.
You need to walk in expecting discomfort, but more than likely you'll walk out being completely addicted and ready for your next one.
And yes, bring a friend. If you don't need to hold their hand, they'll be nice company for you while you get tattooed.
I get bored easily so I always bring a friend along.
Good luck with your new tattoo!!!

It is not like getting shot, or being stabbed with a pin over and over, it is more of a burning, scratching sensation that is more annoying than painful, although sometimes it kind of feels good. You will probably be expecting the worse and be pleasantly surprised to find that you aren't in agony. BREATH, relax, it will be over before you know it.
P.S. I hate "needles" too, but I have quite a large tattoo collection, the tattoo needles aren't like needles at all...

it does hurt especially on the ankle but i have done it 2 more times since, so it wasnt that bad, but it does hurt, the outlining is worse than the coloring of the inside, it is more annoying, kinda feels like a car scratch, and yes a friend can come and watch...my advice would be to do something small and only 2 colors to start out with....on a scale from 1-10 it is about a 6

Getting a tattoo will hurt, but you get used to the pain after a little while. And most tattoo places will let you bring a friend along with you if you're afraid of something.

But if you're really bad with pain/needles, you may want to reconsider getting it done at all.

it does hurt, but if it is something you really want and have thought a lot about then it is probably worth it. the ribs are usually the part of the body that hurts the worst when getting tattooed, but your ankle shouldnt be TOO bad, although it will still hurt.

and yes, you probably can bring a friend, but only ONE. most tattoo artists dont need their station full of spectators. you may want to talk to your tattooist ahead of time and ask his/her policy on guests, although most will let you have at least one.

Of course it hurts. They're putting needles with ink in your skin. Sure, you can bring a friend for moral support. If you do it, the needles do not look like hospital needles--they're mechanized. Just don't look. The artist can be between you and the work, anyway. If you want it, borrow a pain pill ahead of time or ask your doctor for a prescription for about 5-10---or you could just suck it up and have a life changing experience. Face your fears! Be bold! Carpus Diem!

you are my twin!
i hate needles, i pass out when getting a shot or having blood drawn.
i got a tat on my ankle, and it hurt like a b*tch! i had two friends holding my hands, and i almost broke one of the girls' hand! not really, but i shared the pain with her. in my case, the pain didn't "go away", or become "annoying". it hurt! but i'd do it again in a heartbeat! it's all how you look at the finished product,

good luck!

not to scare you out of it but i have 3..on my hip my shoulder andmy ankle and my ankle hurt the worst and bled more then the others. you cant really think of it as a needle... its like a vibrating pen that feels like a razor blade. it will hurt but everyones tolerance is different and of course you can bring a friend... someone to talk to to get your mind off things

It all depends on how much pain you can handle. If you are someone that cannot handle pain that well, I wouldn't get one. My BF is a tattoo artist and she says it is VERY stressful on herself and the client when they are getting a tattoo and cannot handle it. It can make a tattoo that should only take 30 mins turn into a 2 hour tattoo.
It does hurt more on fatty parts.
