My tending-to-tubbiness cat has been switched to Nutro Choice Complete Care Indoor cat dry food which has fewer calories and fat for less active cats. It also comes in a lite formula.

I wouldn't buy major label food like Iams or Purina as they just have a lot of filler in them which tends to be mainly carb and corn based. Innova or Nutro are the best of the bunch really for good ingredients (Innova is the best but I just can't get it in the UK so Nutro it is for tub cat).

As for playing, tubby cat only plays for 15-30 mins a day MAXIMUM! She's just lazy :op

She does love ping pong balls and feathers and dangly things on poles though. If anything's going to get her going it's those!

But some cats just play less than others.

Get her on premium lite cat food and try her out with different toys to see what she likes. Even just throwing balls of rolled up paper, or maybe get a treat ball for her to chase round to get food from.

Good luck!

There is little you can do to make your cat play. You might want to switch to a different food, one made for inactive or overweight cats. The inexpensive cat foods don't always give them all the nutrients they need; try a good food like Iams or Science Diet. These will actually be the same price or less expensive, because your cat won't need to eat as much. There is also the added benefit of less waste from the cat.

I have an overweight cat also. He tends to loose weight better on canned food. They are higher in protein lower in carbs than dry foods. One toy that might get your baby girl to move is one of those laser toys (just don't let it point in her eyes) . My cat will chase that. Even a little exercise is better than none. I have read cats need 2 fifteen minute exercise sessions a day

fill a toy with catnip (you can buy both in the cat toy section of the pet store or variety store) and pull the toy across the floor near her -- let her get a smell of it -- pull it in jerky motions so it looks like a real mouse. Get toy with real bird feathers and play with that around her. Both tend to get even fat cats playing.

if she won't play then try a good diet food for cats. if she's been fixed then she will gain some weight any way. and you could try catnip toys may or may not work but worth a try. hope this helps.
