The simple answer is that soldiers are perceived to be strong, manly, protective: a woman's dream. It's a little stereotypical. Also, a soldier will keep himself in shape, which means no floppy beer belly and the like. Also, he is used to keeping clean.
The more complex answer is that not every woman are attracted to soldiers. I, myself, think that being with a soldier may be conflicting with my lifestyle. For example, would my soldier man yell at me if I didn't keep the house spotless all the time? What if I failed to keep myself in shape? How would I deal if he gets sent away on a mission?
But in all honesty, if I was to make a flash-decision, I'd go for the soldier rather than the "ordinary man".

The uniform and confidence usually. Clean-cut, tough supposedly. It's a very "manly" profession, same thing with the old construction worker fetish. Plus, the whole idea of being a soldier is sacrifice..your life isn;t your own and you may becalled to give it for the good of your country. Women appreciate this and it turns into a sexual thing for many....they make the corralation that this man would sacrifice himself and his will for them (remember DiCaprio's last breath in Titanic and millions of female repeat viewers of that mover, largest grossing movie in history).

Nothing sexier than a man in a uniform. Also soldiers tend to be aggresive and in physically in shape.

The UNIFORM-but the knowing this guy goes to war and does what he does also stirs the excitment of knowing they are men of war. Danger can be very exciting.
