Satan knew exactly who God and Jesus were and still are today. He was created by God and lived in Heaven. He knew the score. He wanted to be God and raise some support from some of the other created angels. God tossed out Satan and the angels that followed Satan. God will not give up His position to anyone and who wants Him too. Only God is the fair judge and loves us. Satan could care less about you or anyone, except himself.

The Bible and the Koran consider Satan/Shaytaan to be a fallen angel from the kingdom of God.

He immediately came to live among people and sew his evil. It is now being sewn at a faster rate than ever before it the history of mankind.

Even more than a "being" Satan represents the evil in our world. We see it everywhere we turn from entertainment to fashion to politics and religion.

Evil perpetuates itself.

Evil is gaining the upper hand.

Evil is what you see in wars, in starving children, in genocide and corporate greed. Evil is an illness of the spirit and soul, twisting it so that it cannot withstand goodness.

Evil has a name. Humans seem to need a image so they gave this evil a name. Just as God/Allah is a genderless entity, represented as a man, so it is with Satan/Shaytaan.

He/it is insidious and is always with us. It is for us to walk away and do the right thing.

It is up to us to live as the Prophets Jesus and Mohammed wish us to. In harmony, respecting the golden rule.

Obviously, the devil knew who Jesus was in heaven. Because Jesus said in the book of Luke, "I saw Satan fall like lighting from the sky". Also, when Jesus was walking on the scene, demons trembled and knew who He was. They could only know this because at some point they were in heaven at one time to see Jesus, to later recognize Him in the earth. This also includes the devil.

In effect, Satan was saying that humans would be better off making their own decisions rather than obeying God’s laws. He thus challenged God’s way of ruling. This raised the all-important issue of God’s universal sovereignty, that is, his right to rule. The question was raised: Which is better for humans, Jehovah’s way of ruling or rulership independent of him? Now, Jehovah could have immediately executed Adam and Eve, but that would hardly have settled the issue of sovereignty satisfactorily. By letting human society develop for a considerable time, God could demonstrate just what independence from him and his laws would produce.

Satan’s attack on Jehovah’s right to rule did not stop with what took place in Eden. He called into question loyalty to Jehovah on the part of others. This became a closely related secondary issue. His challenge reached out to include both the offspring of Adam and Eve and all the spirit sons of God, even Jehovah’s dearly loved firstborn Son. In the days of Job, for instance, Satan contended that those who serve Jehovah do so, not out of love for God and his way of ruling, but for selfish reasons. He argued that when subjected to hardship, they would all give in to selfish desires.—Job 2:1-6; Revelation 12:10.

Each of us today has to face the issue of universal sovereignty. If we have openly stated that we are on Jehovah’s side, Satan makes us a target. He brings pressure from every direction and will continue to do so down to the end of his wicked system of things. We must not let our guard down. (1 Peter 5:8) Our conduct shows where we stand on the supreme issue of Jehovah’s sovereignty and the secondary issue of integrity to God under test. We cannot afford to view disloyal conduct as unimportant simply because it is common in the world. Maintaining integrity requires that we endeavor to apply Jehovah’s righteous ways in every matter of life.

He blatantly disobeyed God, and encouraged the first two humans into doing the same.

And he's been entirely unrepentant about it, because he's been tricking people into disobeying God ever since that day.

It was Satan who brought into the world evil and disobedience to God.

According to Jesus Christ:
"He (the Devil) was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks the lie, he speaks from himself, for he is a liar and the father of lies."
(John 8:44)
