I'm thinking of having my husbands name (Mikey) tattooed on my body for his birthday, I don't have any other tattoos and am a bit afraid of the pain. Thinking of my ankle or shoulder. Any advice?

I am not certain on his name, and appreciate it could look tacky ( i know a tattoo artist) but i married him, for me that is more for life than a tattoo is. Maybe that's different for others.

The pain is really not that bad. Especially just being a name. In my experience the ankle was not that painful. Good luck.

Oh yeah, a bunch of people will tell you not to get your hubby's name. They don't know you though. If you are sure you want it get it.

Having a straight out English name tattooed on you can sometimes look tacky. Get it translated into another language that uses different characters. That way not only will it look decorative but also if you ever split no one has to be any the wiser that it says Mikey!

The ankle is very painful so I would suggest the shoulder. The more flesh covering the area the better as that way the needle does not hit onto the bone when it goes through the skin. You can get a cream from the chemist that dulls out the skin that they use for little kids when they have to get a needle, if you are really concerned.

I dunno if a partner's name is the best thing to have tattooed on your body however, I do have a tattoo so I can give answers on your question. The ankle is one of the most pain parts of the body to have a tattoo especially right there on the bone. Having a tattoo done almost feels like if you were to drag a sharp object like a safety pin (the sharp part) across your skin while at the same time it's vibrating. The bone area you will find is sensitive and it can really hurt. I have a tattoo on my shoulder, not directly where the bone sticks out though, in the more meaty area. Regardless there will be pain involved, depending on what size you want and the type of design there could be more or less but it's really not that serious. Don't be scared, check out the person or place that you plan to go, make sure they are clean, use a fresh needle, and know what they're doing.

I have a butterfly tattoo on my shoulder and a lily on my ankle. The pain in not unbearable. I think the one on my ankle hurt worse than the one on my shoulder. If I had it to do over again I probably wouldn't get the one on my ankle just because it is not as easy to hide. I have been seriously thinking of having it removed. Just give it a lot of thought before you do it. Hope that helps.

I have two tattos on my right bicep (the one on top is MY nickname written in old english and the one below it is a yen and yang arm band). The coloring in part hurt a bit, but once the artist hit a certain point my arm went numb. So in other words, the outlining was the worst for me. I have friends that said that the closest to bone the more pain and your ankle doesn't have much meat there so it may be a tender spot, same goes for the shoulder. But everyone tolerates pain differently. I would never get more, if you want my opinion and I would never tattoo someone else's name (besides my children's) name on my body....been divorced and remarried and I would seriously regreted getting my ex husband's name permenatly inked on my body ***shivers to the thought***. But anyway, I digressed, good luck to you

first of all, no one here knows how old you are, or how long you have been married, so these rude and condescending comments really need to stop.
second of all, its funny how those without tattoos are calling them cheap, but if they only knew that a good tattoo can be quite expensive.
thirdly, do what YOU want.
if you want his name tattooed on you, its YOUR body.
there are other options though, like getting something that symbolizes the relationship between the two of you, that wouldn't be so obvious to other people at first glance.
just think this over for quite some time before you make your final decision!

People get tattoos for a number of reasons. The main reasons are:

1. Because most people are unintelligent, they are easily lead by fashions. The "I want one, coz every one else is getting one" attitude. These people are dumb. What are they going to do when the people that decide what is fashionable and what isn't decide they are "so last year". Inevitably, fashions change. In 20 years time, people with tattoos will probably be looked upon as criminals and 'ne'er-do-well's again, as they were 25 years ago. Remember, you've got it for life - you can't change it like you would a haircut when that goes out of fashion....

2.Tattoos are good for people that feel inferior. They offer a cheap, quick and easy way of giving someone perceived individuality. People like this get tattoos to make up for deficiencies in their personailty.

4. Tattooed people who call it 'art', or 'spiritual'. B*llocks! What have you, my friend, got to do with Moaris from New Zealand, ancient China, or some Celtic symbol from 2000 years ago?! Wake up, Loser!

5. Thugs and hooligans. Most of them have tattoos. Enough said.

3. Chavs. Enough said.

4. A lot of female pornstars seem to have 'em. (I enjoyed the research on this one!). I'll leave you to interpret what this may mean...

I know most of you are not going to like these frank views, but hey, the truth hurts sometimes.

Yep, I have seven tattoos.
Really sorry, but I don't think you should get hubby's name tattooed on you.... I always think names are a bad idea. Remember, a tattoo is for life, and as much as you may be in love at the moment... well, you know...
But it's up to you..
With regards to pain, it's not that big a deal. I'm a complete wimp, so to have had seven tattoos, it can't be that bad.
