I have a black lab who is almost 12 years old, she is a very happy dog but not very heavy, she stays with my father and my step siblings who feed her alot so she is definatly over weight, my problem (besides her weight) is she has a big huge buldge coming out of her gum in front of her bottum teeth, it looks like her gum is just swelling up to the size of a large marble. what could this be? is it serious?

I am not a vet, and it could be one of many things. My sister's dog had an epulis, which the vet found during a routine exam.

His was way back in his mouth and not as large as what you are describing. They took out as much as they could surgically and sent it out for a biopsy. They ended up having to go in and remove the tooth and more area around it, but he's doing great.

Get her to the vet as soon as you can. She'll be much more comfortable once they've diagnosed her problem and you've decided on a course of treatment.

Good luck!

You should take your dog to the vet to have this mass checked out. Any sort of growth on an older dog is concerning. Sure, it could be benign, but it could also be very malignant and make her very sick.

There is no way to know what it is unless you take her to the vet and have them test it. They can take a sample from it with a needle, and look at the sample under the microscope to see if it looks malignant. Or, depending on where it is, they may need to anesthetize her, remove it, and send it to a lab for biopsy to tell what it is.

Either way, she needs to see the vet.

Labs are known for benign tumors as they age, but I've never heard of one in the mouth. I think someone needs to call the vet.

It could be a canker sore, I know that sounds funny, but dogs can get them, and my dog had one a few years back. It always good to go get them checked out though by a vet.

It could be an infection. I'd get her in to see a vet and let an expert diagnose what's going on.
