After 12 years of service, my old Sony is sick & I want a new telly. I'm after either an LCD or plasma, around 32 to 40 inches. I know the tech stuff about them, but could someone give me some constructive advice about what makes are worth buying, life expectancy (I've heard they sometimes only last 5 or so years, is this true?) & general experiences with them? Ta much!

I bought a Sony Bravia 32" LCD telly ayear ago and I can give it nothing but praise. Perfect picture , great playback from both dvd and videos.+ games. Its HD ready but at the moment that does not mean much as nothings broadcast in HD.
I dont think you can better it plus they have dropped £600/700 in 1year

Up to 46" lcd are far better. Above this some people say plasma have a very slight edge. If you intend gaming on it avoid plasma. The best on the market at present is the Sony Bravia range.

Stick with a Sony for good picture & sound qualiy or maybe a Panasonic, don't be tempted to buy a Samsung, I did & sent it back. Buy from someone who'll give you a 5 yr warranty as the reliabilty of these TVs are not really known. Some shops are cheaper but when you add in the warranty they are not

hi,

The best 4 to go for are sony, panasonice, toshiba and samsung.

LCD has a longer life, as plasma uses gas ( 30,000 - 60,000 veiwing hours ).

It's the dead pixials that the manufactures xannot cover ( as they are over 1 million of them ), so ask the shop what their cover covers in regards to dead pixials, if its the same as the manufactures then walk away.

Hope this helps wg
