We'll never really know, but a really good argument could be made for both sides. First, Israelite religion REALLY was against homosexuality. This was a rejection of the much more sexually free, pagan societies that surrounded them. However, we know that theory and practice are two very, very different things, especially for the privileged members of society. The Bible is full of the Chosen People giving in and going back to practice the pagan ways of their neighbors and their ancestors (yes, ancestors, read carefully and understand what you are reading. The path to monotheistic understanding was a very long one). Plus, everyone else was doing it! So my vote is yes, he probably was bi. Does this take away from his wisdom, success and historical legacy???? Only if you are a jerk. If he was, he was simply a product of his environment.

This verse makes you think he could have been bisexual, only because you're reading it through the lens of today's horribly oversexed culture.

What this verse discusses is brotherly love, or a God-like love between two people -- which is not sexual at all.

In fact, that's the very reason why this sort of love was "surpassing the love of women." It surpasses it because there's absolutely no chance of objectifiying the other person.

That's what happens at times with sex, but the relationship between Jonathan and David was well above all that.

No offense, but I think you're making a big mistake by equating "love" with "sex" when you see the former word in the Bible.

When you see words like "love" in the Bible, it's best to think outside the box. Outside the box of our oversexed culture, that is.

No David was not bi- He and jonathan were best of friends and blood brothers. Women in those days were not social equals and a man would not confide in a woman. It had nothing to do with sex, only sharing dreams and aspirations, secrets and encouragement. Jonathan had much to lose politically and personally by being friends with and even saving David's life. But he did it anyway. His loyalty even went so far as to go against his own father, King Saul. Jonathan risked his own life and threw away his chances of becoming king himself by protecting David. In David's mind this was HUGE. He could see Jonathan's devotion as more than even a husband to a wife. It was that of a subject's loyalty to his king.

I think your question has been well answered already but when you love someone as a brother, its not a physical or sexual attraction.

You can admire and love someone without being sexually involved with them.

Its the same for straights, gays or bi people. Gay, bi & transgender people, are people and have the same emotions and feelings, if you love someone wheather it be same sex or not, what does it matter as long as you love them.

Does it realy matter if King David & Jonathan were more than brothers in kind.

I think you have a deeper and more relivent question to ask yourself or indeed Yahoo answers.

They went through trying times together as many people who can become bonded together and that old English Translation can put a twist on it unless otherwise informed by a modern English translation.Dost thou understandist thatist the love of a woman doest notist always mean sex.

No, He was not. There is no indication in Scripture that David and Jonathan were bisexuals. David's love for Jonathan was not sexual but a friendship. It is common in eastern cultures for heterosexual man to express love and affection toward one and another.

No, David and Jonathan were lovers until King Saul had Jonathan executed.
