I am in show choir and me and my friends are always doing each others hair for the show. It's kind of hard not to breathe some in. Does that hurt your lungs any? Does it make you sing worse?

I am in show choir and my friends and I are always doing each others hair for the show. It's kind of hard not to breathe some in. Does that hurt your lungs any? Does it make you sing worse? Please be specific on how it could effect you on a long term basis. And I can't go outside because we're not allowed to so that is not an option. I just want to know consequences.

I have worked in a salon for over 20 years and I never had a problem with breathing in hair spray, but I have had employees that have bad reactions to certain sprays but they have asthma or some other breathing complication also. I did have a stylist have to leave the industry because she developed "chemically induced asthma" which her doctor said was from the sprays in the salon. I really don't think it will hurt you. Be careful because if it bothers you maybe you shouldn't be around it. Check with your doctor if you are concerned please! Good luck.

It isn't good for you... I mean, nothing good comes from it... You are suppose to spray in a WELL ventilated area. If possible, Outside is the best place where you can get some air. I use to spray HairSpray, but it really isn't good for the environment. I also have asthma and got to the point that I just COULDN"T use it anylonger. It gags me to be around it now. If you can't do it outside, wear a protective mask that goes over your mouth and nose (kinda like the one we use to see Michael Jackson wear) that will cut out some of the spray just when you use it. If you are doing this in a bathroom or small room, get out immediately after spraying so that you don't have to breathe this stuff in. If you have to be around it in a locker room, try to stay as far away from it as you can. All in all, it really isn't good for you to breathe and I am sure doesn't help your singing voice either.

It is not good for you and can irritate you depending on how sensitive you are. It is best to use hairspray outside or in a well ventilated area.
