You dont need a sound card, you need the software that makes the sound card work, called a driver. To locate the driver there are two methods:
1. If your computer is propietary such as Dell 2300, then go to the dell website and they should have the driver for you.
2. If your computer is custom built, then you will need to know the make and model of the sound card to load the drivers. If you remove the cover to the computer, locate the sound card and write down the make and model number of the sound card. Then go to that sound card makers website, and download and install the drivers.

You need a sound driver for your sound card probably. Goto the control panel and click on add/remove hardware. Do a search for Multimedia devices and hope Windows XP can find one.

A driver is software that tells Windows how to use the sound card. Its kind of like an instruction manual.

Good Luck to You!

go to my computer and right click, then go to properties and once in there hit the hardware tab, then device managers, and delete all the stuff under music devices, and restart the computer...if it doesn't automatically read it you need a new sound card.,.....or the right driver which you should be able to download from the companies website(whatever company made the sound card)

Look in device manager at your audio devices - if your sound card has the exclamation point, you probably just need to download and install the proper driver.

HA HA Ha, sorry couldn't help it. Anyways a sound card is a phisical thing not a software download(though software is involved). You have to go to a store and buy one or buy it online. If you had sound on your system before you may just have to reinstall your driver for your sound card. Google it if you don't have it
